Maruti Ignis India Launch Date
Maruti Ignis India Launch Date | November-December 2016 |
The launch date of Maruti Suzuki Ignis compact SUV will probably fall in the last quarter of this year. At the Auto Expo 2016, where the Ignis was first showcased to the Indian public, Maruti announced that the Ignis will be sold through the Nexa dealer network. This indicates that it will be a premium offering and the variants will have the same variant names as the S-Cross and Baleno – Sigma, Alpha, Delta, Zeta.

At the Auto Expo, Maruti announced that the Ignis and the Baleno RS will arrive in showrooms during the 2016 festive season. However, according to the latest reports, while the Baleno RS’s launch is on track, the Ignis will not be coming to us before the end of this year. A reason for that could be high demand for other Maruti products such as the Baleno and Brezza. Maruti is struggling to cope with the demand for its new products. With the festive season almost here, demand will go up, which could push the Ignis launch date to end 2016 or early 2017.

In India, the Ignis could come to us with the same engines that power the Swift. Maruti could also provide an option of Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT).India-spec model will boast an FF layout. In an interesting, and rather surprising move, Maruti could offer the Ignis with an All-Wheel Drive system as well. New-generation platform
The new generation platform underpinning the Ignis has been tailor-made to enhance the rigidity of the car’s structure. Not just this, it also reduces weight by means of a fundamental re-design of the car’s underbody structure. Maruti Ignis Design Review
The Suzuki Ignis was first unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It is among the newest of Suzuki’s ideas for the compact SUV and crossover segments. The Ignis previews the manufacturer’s upcoming compact 4×4 and the car’s design boasts of uniqueness and Suzuki’s DNA. The car’s theme is “Shape the Inspiration”. Basically, the upcoming Maruti Ignis is a highly personal vehicle that opens gates to new possibilities to have fun. In words of Suzuki, the Ignis is “intelligent but tough, offering reliable performance rooted in the Suzuki 4×4 tradition coupled with the latest fuel-saving technology. The minimalist design blends perfectly into the driver’s lifestyle, while its distinctive character brings real inspiration to the daily routine.”
The Ignis will have a high ground clearance and a high hip point. It might also get a 4WD system. All of this will ensure that this car is easy to drive in tough road conditions. On the inside, it has a user-friendly interior and a large luggage area. The car’s minimalist body boasts plain surfaces and a round-ish roof, with straight lines that make the design more attractive. The large wheels, pushed to the corners of the vehicle, go on to hint at this SUV’s muscular performance and give it a dynamic stance. Then there are some more dramatic design features such as the ‘sunglass clad’ look of the front fascia, helmet like roof and the vents on the C Pillar, which are inspired by older models from Suzuki.

Maruti Ignis India – Exterior
The new Suzuki Ignis looks much like the iM4 concept previewed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The Suzuki Ignis measures 3679mm in length, 1579mm in height and is 1478mm wide. It gets really bold arches, sporty bumpers, some chrome accents, large wheels and an overall boxy silhouette. In India, the Ignis will compete with the Mahindra KUV100 and upcoming models such as the Chevrolet Beat Activ and Tata Tiago Aktiv.

- Sunglass like front grille and headlamp design
- Blacked out A and B pillars
- Clamshell bonnet

- LED Head lamps
Maruti Ignis India – Interior
On the inside, the Ignis gets a combination of light and dark surfaces. Its dashboard design is unlike anything we have seen from Maruti Suzuki till date. Since it will be sold through the Nexa sales network, the Ignis will get a slew of premium features. The Ignis will feature Maruti’s SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system. This system features a special HMI (Human Machine Interface), smartphone connectivity and navigation features. It also boasts Apple CarPlay and voice-recognition function. In India, however, the Ignis might borrow the SmartPlay infotainment system currently available on Baleno, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza. All this will take the Maruti Ignis price to above 7 lakhs but only for the fully loaded models.
Maruti Ignis Engine and Transmission
In all probability, the upcoming Ignis will share its engines with the Baleno/Swift/Dzire. It will get a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.3 litre diesel. Interestingly, the 1.3 litre diesel will benefit from mild hybrid tech similar to what we have seen in the Ciaz and Ertiga SHVS models. Manual transmission variants will get a 5 speed gearbox. There will be petrol automatic variants as well that will get a CVT. Use of SHVS mild hybrid tech means the Ignis will be eligible for concessions under the Government’s FAME scheme. This could bring down the price of diesel variants further. However, recent reports suggest Maruti will equip the Ignis with a 5-speed AMT instead of a CVT to keep costs competitive. Maruti is yet to confirm the engine and transmission lineup.
