Tata Kite 5 (Tiago Compact Sedan)
Leading our list of the Upcoming Sedan Cars in India 2016 -17 is the Tata Kite5. Tata Motors, the company who gave birth to the compact sedan in India with the Indigo CS, seems to be betting big on the segment to push sales and regain some lost ground. Tata is working on a derivative of the Tiago, which they will place below the Zest and is currently known as the Kite 5. It will also, in all probability, be the cheapest compact sedan on sale in India. Based on the recently launched Tiago hatchback, it made its public debut at the Auto Expo 2016. Expect a starting price of around INR 4.0 lacs

Honda Accord
Honda makes it into our list of the Upcoming Sedan Cars in India 2016 -17 with the new Honda Accord. It will make a comeback in 2016 after being discontinued due to lacklustre sales. One of the major reasons for that was the lack of a diesel engine option. This lead to competitors such as the Skoda Superb poaching buyers from Honda. Diesel variants of the Accord are not on the cards. Instead, Honda will bring the hybrid version to India. Available internationally, it will help counter the threat from its diesel counterparts and also from the Toyota Camry Hybrid.

Toyota Vios
We expect Toyota to launch the Vios sedan in India in the next 10-12 months. This mid-size sedan has been on sale in international markets for quite some time and has tasted a lot of success as well. When launched in India, the Vios will compete with the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and the likes. The Vios will share its engines with the Etios or the Corolla. 2016 Honda Civic
The second Honda on our list of Upcoming Sedan Cars in India 2016 -17 is the new Civic. The Honda Civic‘s history in India is similar to that of its stablemate, the Accord. Dwindling sales due to the presence of cheaper, diesel equipped alternatives meant the Civic was taken off the shelves after the next generation was launched internationally. The 2016 Honda Civic sedan made its debut last year. And we’re expecting it to come to India by the end of 2016. Powering 1.8-litre could be a 1.8-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre that power the City. While it might not be the most powerful diesel unit out there, it will still be more powerful than the segment leader Corolla and will also make the Civic one of the most frugal sedans around.

Expected Launch | End 2016 |
Price (Estimated) | INR 13-15 lacs |
2016 Chevrolet Cruze
The current Chevrolet Cruze has been around for too long now, a fact which is well reflected in its sales figures. After successful initial years in the market, the craze for the Cruze faded away as GM failed to bring in regular updates. The next generation model came out recently and will come to India. The launch should take place by early 2017. The sedan still remains one of the most powerful diesel offerings and easily the best value for money in the segment. However, it has lost out to newer competition like the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, etc.
Engine Type/ Displacement | 2.0 litre diesel |
Power | 151 bhp |

One of them was the Essentia compact sedan, a derivative of the new Beat. The new Beat will come in two body styles- hatchback and a compact sedan. The compact sedan segment in India is currently one of the most popular and could help GM get back up on its feet and become a key player in the market again.
Engine Type/ Displacement | 1.2 litre petrol |
Power | 79 bhp |
Torque | 108 Nm |
Transmission (Gearbox) | 5-speed manual |

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class
As far as luxury cars are concerned, the new E-Class is easily one of the most anticipated Upcoming Sedan Cars in India 2016 -17. The all-new E-Class will make its way into Indian showrooms by the first half of 2017. The design of the new E is in line with the latest S-Class and C-Class models. In its latest avatar, the new E also gets an LWB version. But, for now, the LWB variant is only for markets such as China. There is a possibility of it coming to India as well. Engine line-up will be the same as the current model.
