Since the launch of new products like Hyundai’s Creta and Renault’s updated Duster, Nissan India’s Terrano has struggled to find buyers. The small SUV has not been given an update since its launch in India till now. Reports suggest Nissan is preparing to roll out a new model of the Terrano with an AMT automatic transmission option. Nissan hasn’t made anything public yet, but we’re expecting the AMT variants to arrive in showrooms by the end of October 2016. Festive season launch will help Nissan push sales of the Terrano SUV in the market. Since the launch of the Hyundai Creta and arrival of the Duster facelift, sales of the Terrano have taken a major hit. Now will be the right time for Nissan to roll out an update to cash in on the lucrative festive season.

Nissan Terrano AMT automatic variants will cost about 60,000-70,000 more than the manual variants. We expect it to be priced in the Rs. 12-14 lakhs range. The Terrano is already more expensive than the Duster. While the facelift will not be cheaper, addition of premium features could help justify the extra cost.

Currently, the Nissan Terrano draws power from a 1.6 L Petrol and a 1.5 L Diesel. The latter is available in two states of tune – 85 PS and 110 PS. Nissan will offer the 6-speed AMT with the 110 PS Diesel engine option. The 6-speed AMT will be the same one the Renault Duster gets.

Nissan Terrano AMT Automatic Exterior Design
We’re not expecting to see any major cosmetic enhancements. However, Nissan might give the Terrano range a mild exterior update. A new front bumper and grille, along with a reprofiled rear bumper is are what we’re expecting. Tail lamps could get a LED treatment as well. Apart from that, the Terrano will continue with the same design. The current SUV’s exterior is a mildly reworked version of the Renault Duster with which its shares almost everything. The Terrano gets sharper headlamps and larger tail lamps along with a new alloy wheel design. The looks of the Nissan Terrano have played a major role in the SUV’s popularity. However, it really needs an update to stay in the game.
Nissan Terrano AMT Automatic Interior Design
While the interior design and cabin layout of the Nissan Terrano AMT will be the same as the current car, it could get new upholstery. An all-black interior colour scheme could also be on the cards. Nissan might add certain features such as a touchscreen AVN. As of now, the Terrano suffers from a lack of certain basic features that its competitors come with. The Addition of a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control and steering audio controls will really help the Terrano’s cause. Other than that, it will continue with the same interiors as the current car.
Nissan Terrano AMT Automatic Engine and Transmission
Currently, Nissan Terrano is available with two engine options. These include a 1.6 L Petrol that makes 102 bhp and 145 Nm mated to a 5-speed manual. The other engine on offer is a 1.5 L diesel available in two states of tune – 84 bhp-200 Nm and 108 bhp 248 Nm. The former gets a 5-speed manual transmission while the latter comes with a 6-speed manual as standard. The 110 PS 1.5 L Diesel is the one that will get the automatic option in the form of a 6-speed AMT gearbox. This will be the same gearbox that comes with the Renault Duster automatic. Fuel efficiency is unlikely to take a hit.
