TATA HEXA
The dismal performance of the Aria crossover sent engineers at Tata Motors back to the drawing board and they have come up with this – Tata Hexa. A cross between an MPV and an SUV, the Hexa looks definitely looks better than its predecessor and feels more premium too. It will come with the 2.2-litre Varicor 400 engine. Tata’s Upcoming SUV in India will be launched by the end of October.

MARUTI IGNIS
Maruti Ignis will come to India as a mini-SUV. It will be positioned below the Vitara Brezza and will compete with the Mahindra KUV100 and hatchbacks such as the Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Swift. It was on display at the Auto Expo in February this year. Maruti will sell the Ignis through the Nexa sales network. Under the hood, you will find Swift’s 1.2 L petrol and 1.3 L diesel engines. A 5-speed manual and a CVT will handle transmission duties. This new Upcoming SUV in India will arrive in showrooms before the end of 2016.

TATA NEXON
The second Upcoming SUV in India by Tata is the Nexon compact SUV. Tata has taken a different approach to the compact SUV segment, especially in terms of design. As evident from the model showcased at the Auto Expo, the main focus of the Nexon is its design. The coupe-SUV silhouette sets it apart from the current crop of compact SUVs on sale in India. The Tata Nexon will arrive early next year with a 1.2 L Turbo Petrol and 1.5 L Turbo Diesel engine.

HYUNDAI CARLINO [HND-14]
With compact SUVs gaining immense popularity in recent times, manufacturers seem to have shifted their focus to low-cost small SUVs. India’s second-largest car maker, Hyundai is working on a compact SUV that will take on the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Vitara Brezza. It will be based on the Carlino or HND-14 concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo in February. We expect the Hyundai compact SUV to arrive in showrooms by the end of 2017. Hyundai’s Upcoming SUV in India will fill the gap between the i20 Active and Creta.

RENAULT KAPTUR
French car maker Renault will be launching another small SUV in India called the Kaptur. Unveiled recently and already on sale in Russia, the Kaptur will sit above the Duster. It will be sold as a more premium soft-roader. Details are scarce as of now, but we expect this Upcoming SUV in India to arrive by the end of 2017.

SSANGYONG TIVOLI
Mahindra-owned Korean car maker Ssangyong will be looking to launch its second offering in India by early 2017. The Tivoli small SUV that was on display at the Auto Expo. However, Mahindra has not made any official announcements yet. Some sources report that India will get a smaller Ssangyong SUV based on the Tivoli and not the Tivoli itself. Competitors will include Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Honda BR-V and Maruti S-Cross.

MARUTI S-CROSS FACELIFT
Suzuki recently took the wraps off the S-Cross facelift for international markets. We expect Maruti to bring the S-Cross facelift to India in the first half of 2017. The crossover will continue using the current diesel engine lineup consisting of 1.3 L and 1.6 L options. Additionally, the 2017 MY S-Cross could get a petrol engine option as well along with an automatic transmission.

NEW MAHINDRA BOLERO POWER PLUS
Although the Bolero is still one of the highest selling UVs in India, Mahindra has launched a new cheaper version. Dubbed Mahindra Bolero Power+, the new variant is shorter and gets a smaller 1.5 L engine. This enables the Bolero to take advantage of the small car tax benefits.

MARUTI VITARA BREZZA
After showcasing compact SUV concepts in 2012 and 2014 editions of the Auto Expo, Maruti finally took the wraps off its production spec compact SUV at the 2016 edition. Christened the Vitara Brezza, the SUV has been a huge hit with the Indian audience. It is powered by a 1.3-litre Diesel that churns out 89 bhp and 200 Nm. It is the same engine as the Ciaz and S-Cross. Prices start at around 7 lakhs for the base LDi trim while the top-spec ZDi+ costs over Rs. 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The TUV300 is an all new vehicle aimed at buyers looking for a compact SUV that is big on space and stands out from the crowd. The design inspiration, according to Mahindra, has been battle tanks. Interiors feature a 3 spoke steering wheel and a touchscreen infotainment system among other features. It employs a 1.5-litre diesel that is available in tow states of tune – 84 bhp-230 Nm and 100 bhp-240 Nm.

MARUTI S-CROSS
Maruti‘s first attempt at the SUV segment with the Grand Vitara wasn’t a successful one. It failed to make an impression on the premium SUV buyers. But they didn’t lose hope and launched the S-Cross crossover in 2015. Based on the SX4 the car looks more like a high-riding hatchback rather than a conventional SUV. A fact that seems to have turned a few buyers in the direction of its competitors. The interiors are spacious and come with a very good level of equipment. Powering the S-Cross are 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel motors with a manual transmission.
