Updates for Mitsubishi Outlander range add new in-car tech and safety kit

2016-09-29 09:00

Mitsubishi has announced a range of updates for its flagship SUV, the Outlander - with new kit coming to both the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version and the diesel.

The new Outlander PHEV features a new 'EV priority' switch, which prevents the system from switching to hybrid mode. That means you can drive the full 33-mile electric range without the engine coming on and using fuel.

There's an electric parking brake and an auto-hold mode, while the infotainment system has been updated to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There's also a 1,500W AC spower supply for connecting up electric equipment.

Safety kit includes blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert and a pedestrian detection system for the auto-braking sensors. Automatic high beams and LEF foglamps complete the list.

The Outlander diesel gets those same safety upgrades, as well as tech to stop a crash after accidental acceleration and an around-view camera. It also features a new shark-fin antenna, a heated steering wheel and a heated windscreen.

Diesel models also get a new centre console design to bring it up to date with the PHEV model. It will be available in the UK later in 2017, according to Mitsubishi.
