The 2016 Toyota Fortuner did not make its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. However, that was not the case. Toyota earlier showed its displeasure NGT’s ban on Diesel cars powered by engines displacing 2000 cc or above. Now, however, this ban has been lifted. Hence, TKM has commenced testing the new Fortuner on Indian roads. Our guess is that the new Fortuner 2016 India launch will take on 7, November, 2016.
It may be noted that the new Ford Endeavour and the Chevrolet Trailblazer have already started eating into the sales of the Fortuner. Hence, Toyota needs to launch the new Fortuner in India at the earliest.

The next generation Fortuner 2016 will get a new family of ‘GD’ engines developed by Toyota. There will be a 2.4 litre diesel producing 160 bhp power and 400 Nm torque and a 2.8 litre diesel producing 177 bhp power and 450 Nm torque. Underpinning the SUV will be a brand new ladder frame chassis. The engines will come mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox along with a four wheel drive system as an option.
