The Balneo RS gets an all-new 1.0-litre petrol that puts out a max power of 100 hp and a peak torque of 150 Nm. A speed manual transmission is the only one on offer. The Punto Abarth gets a very loud and flashy exterior treatment that leaves one in no doubt about the performance credentials of the car. It gets Abarth badging, red stripes and delicious 16 inch Scorpion alloy wheels. In comparison, the Baleno RS looks a bit plain. However, it does feature additions such as side skirts, bumper extensions and roof spoiler. Maruti has also thrown in black alloy wheels to give it a sportier appeal. Picking between the two is really up to the buyer and based on his/her preferences.

On the inside, the Abarth Punto gets Abarth badging on the steering wheel and colour coordinated dials. It also comes with cool looking Abarth race pedals. Basically, much the exterior of the car, the interior leaves you in doubt that isn’t your average Fiat Punto. On the other hand, the Baleno RS gets the same cabin as the standard Baleno. The hatchback is already very popular amongst Indian car buyers and the launch of the RS version should make it appeal to enthusiasts as well. Plus, you get the peace of mind that comes with owning a Maruti product. However, if its serious performance you’re looking for, then the Abarth Punto is the one you should pick.
- Price – The Baleno RS is cheaper than the Punto Abarth. However, bear in mind that the Fiat is much more powerful.
- Specifications – Punto Abarth’s 1.4 Petrol makes about 45 BHP and 60 Nm more than the Baleno’s smaller 1.0 L unit. However, the Baleno is lighter.
- Features – Both cars are well equipped in terms of features. Baleno RS edges ahead slightly.
- Design – Punto’s Abarth treatment is anything but subtle. It gets racy bits all around. In contrast, the Baleno RS looks a bit plain.
