Skoda India, the India subsidiary of the VW Group-owned Czech car manufacturer, has announced the launch date of the new 2017 Octavia RS variant. The new 2017 Skoda Octavia RS India launch will happen on August-30 and the new car will become the second of the three new Skoda launches this year (the first being the Rapid Monte Carlo, which was launched yesterday, and the third being the upcoming Kodiaq SUV). The new 2017 RS variant will become the new flagship variant in the Octavia carline. Basically, it’s a high-performance variant targetted at the enthusiasts.

Globally, this high-performance variant of the Octy contributes to 13% of the total sales of this popular notchback. The manufacturer has already dispatched the first lot to its authorized dealerships and test drives should start soon. The 2017 Skoda Octavia RS gets a handful of visual updates along with the more powerful engine. The front-end now looks far sportier and aggressive due to an all-black Grille with a sportier bumper. Of course, there’s a vRS badge to announce the go-faster credentials of this car. In the side profile, you get larger wheels with lower profile rubber. The rear-end is characterized with a boot-lid spoiler, updated bumper with reflector strip, and dual exhaust pipes.

In India, the Skoda Octavia RS 2017 model will get a 2.0-litre TSI engine that will come mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. This engine outputs a max. power of 230 HP. Features list will include LED DRLs, LED Headlamps, 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. Safety features include a full pack of nine airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and park-assist.

The 2017 Octavia RS will become the new flagship model in the current generation Octy’s variant lineup. Thanks to several cosmetic updates and a new, more powerful engine, the RS variant will be definitely a lot pricier than the regular car. In its standard avatar, the Octavia offers three engine options – 2 Petrol and 1 Diesel. While the petrol engine options include a 1.4 TSI and a 1.8 TSI units, the Diesel engine on offer is a 2.0 TDI unit. In India, the Octavia RS 2017 model will go on sale with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. This engine will come mated to a 6-speed DSG and will output a max. power of 230 HP and a peak torque of 350 Nm. The engine will offer three drive modes-Sport, Normal and Comfort. In comparison, the standard Octavia 1.8 comes mated to a 7-speed DSG, it produces only 177 BHP and 250 Nm.

2017 Skoda Octavia RS India Exterior
While the design of the 2017 Skoda Octavia remains the same, it gets many exclusive styling updates to look decidedly sportier than all the other variants. Updates for the exterior include a new bumper, fully adaptive LED headlights, wider air dam and black front grille with ‘RS’ badge. In its side profile, the car gets larger 17-inch wheels with lower profile tires. At the rear-end, the car gets a boot-lid spoiler, a new bumper with reflector strip running across its width, and twin exhaust pipe outlets. The new car will go on sale in a new Race Blue shade.

True to its sporty credentials, the Skoda Octavia RS 2017 will get an all-black interior. Another highlight of the cabin are the RS-Sport seat. The cabin will also get get an optional Alcantara upholstery. Of course, there will be many ‘RS’ badges along with all the features that are available on the standard car. But taking centrestage on the dashboard will be a new 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. Safety features include a full pack of nine airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, Blind Spot Detect, Trailer Assist and Rear Traffic Alert, and park-assist.
Another important new safety feature on offer will be the new Crew Protect Assist feature that closes sunroofs and windows in an unfortunate case of an impact. Also, it tightens the seatbelts to secure the passengers firmly. This feature works in tandem with the Front Assist system by enabling it to use emergency braking system. All of this together makes the interior not only sporty but also a special place to be in.
