Fast and Furious Live

Fans of the Fast and Furious series will get to see the cars and stars of the franchise in a whole new way next year, as Hollywood’s street racing blockbuster makes the leap from the big screen to live arena show with Fast and Furious Live.

Auto Express was invited along for a behind the scenes sneak peek before the show’s opening night at the O2 Arena in London on Friday 19 January 2018 – a show that will fire the starting gun on a five year global tour, taking in nearly every corner of the planet.

It’s an audacious £25 million tour, and one which the creative brains of the project promise will be not just a treat for fans of the series, but will also raise the bar of what arena show audiences should expect in terms of live stunts and action.

Creative director and executive producer, Fast & Furious Live, Rowland French said: “It’s been years in the making, and we are beyond excited to finally show fellow fans what we have been creating in order to bring Fast & Furious Live to the global stage. With this mix of extraordinary stunts, special effects, cutting-edge 3D-projection mapping – as well as drivers pushing their own limits — every performance will create an unforgettable experience for the live audience. Twenty-three cities across 14 countries is just the beginning for Fast & Furious Live.”

70 tonnes of haulage will travel around the globe over five years. The action kicks off across Europe in 2018, with the North American leg of the show’s global tour coming in 2019. In 2020, Fast and Furious Live travels to South America, with Asia and the Pacific in 2021. It’ll come full circle back to Europe in 2022, via South Africa and the Middle East.

11 carefully selected stunt drivers have been chosen as the show’s stars, and they’ll drive a over 40 different vehicles during a two hour tribute featuring stunts evoking some of the most famous scenes and cars from every Fast and Furious film. Extensive use of projectors and 3D mapping means that the show floor scenery promises to live up to exactly how it looks on the big screen.

The drivers are currently seven weeks into an intense rehearsal regime, though their combined experience was on display for all to see during our preview. The crew looks ready to go, and they’ll take part in over 1,000 live performances once the five-year tour kicks off.

The action isn’t just about the stunts on the arena floor, however. The audience will get to meet two all-new characters to the Fast and Furious franchise, while interactivity is also a part of the show – a car built live as the action unfolds will be created with instruction from the audience.

With the action set to begin early next year, tickets for the tour go on sale at the end of September, with seven UK destinations pencilled in for 2018. Following the show’s opening night at the O2 Arena in London, Fast and Furious Live will travel to Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Glasgow and Belfast over the course of April and May.
