Based on the erstwhile top-spec Highline model, the Volkswagen Transporter Edition piles on the extra kit for a luxury van experience.

Volkswagen Transporter Edition

The Auto Express 2017 Van of the Year is getting a specification boost in the shape of a well-equipped Edition model. The special VW Transporter Edition arrives to sit atop the range with prices starting at £29,995 (+VAT).

Based on the range-topping Highline model, the ‘Edition’ includes sporty 17-inch black-surfaced alloy wheels on the less powerful models, while the most powerful 201bhp models will have 18-inch rims. Unique striped decals feature on the side skirts of the ‘Edition’, along with blacked-out LED tail lights and a high-gloss black roof.

The Transporter Edition also includes trinkets that would normally be optional extras, such as Volkswagen’s Discover Media Navigation system, parking sensors, both front and rear, LED headlights, as well as Front Assist and City Emergency Braking systems.

Prices (excluding VAT) start at a reasonable £29,990 for the 148bhp 2.0 TDI 150 with the Kombi models starting at £30,620. Topping the range at £34,085 is the 201bhp bi-turbo TDI variant with the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The sixth-generation Volkswagen Transporter took our Van of the Year award in 2017 thanks to its quality, driveability and engine performance, beating well-established rivals such as the Ford Transit to take the accolade. The brand new ‘Edition’ model is designed to make this classy but discreet panel van stand out that little bit further.

It’s expected that the first Transporter Editions will be delivered to customers by November with Volkswagen currently taking orders.
