New Maruti S Cross 2017 Facelift – All You Need to Know!

The new Maruti S Cross 2017 facelift is merely days away from its launch date during this year’s festive season. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has finally revealed the features and specifications of the upcoming new crossover. Bookings for the new 2017 S-Cross are underway at authorized dealerships. Akin to the pre-facelift, the new model will be available in four trims- Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The updated crossover will offer the new Nexa Blue shade that is also available on the Ciaz. The new option will replace the Urban Blue paint option. Specifications will see a major change as the company has done away with the 1.6-litre engine. The 1.3-litre engine gets mild hybrid tech. Here are all the available details on the prices, specifications, mileage, and interior features.

The parent company claims that the new 2017 Maruti S Cross facelift is bolder, stronger and more efficient than before.  The new S-Cross looks better than before and comes with a handful of new features. The highlight of the refreshed exterior is the set of new LED headlamps and the LRD Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs). It’s worth a mention here that these are reserved only for the top-end model. Other styling updates include a new chrome-plated radiator grille, updated front bumper, a new hood, and LED taillamps. Other than this, the new 2017 model gets wider 215/60 R16 tyres instead of the 205/60 R16 spec rubber on the current car.

Changes are not just restricted to the exterior. Even the interior gets some new features and updates in the form of new seat fabric, new soft-touch dashboard pad, and new satin chrome and piano black trim. The centre armrest for the drive and the front passenger now has a leather finish. These small updates get along really well to together give the cabin a fresh lease of life along with a premium touch. Akin to the current car, the facelift boasts a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Apple Car Play and Android Auto with Mirrorlink. There’s also a new instrument console with an updated Multi Information Display (MID).

The specs no longer carry the very likeable 1.6-litre Diesel engine. The new 2017 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will offer a single engine option – 1.3-litre turbo Diesel. However, this time around, the engine comes with mild hybrid technology that’s so far been available only on the Ertiga and the Ciaz. This engine outputs a maximum power of 89 BHP along with a peak torque of 200 Nm. While the pre-facelift Scross offers a claimed mileage of 23.65 KMPL, the new look S Cross offers 25.1 KMPL. The increase in average mileage is only due to the mild hybrid system.

The S-Cross was first launched in India in 2015. It became the first Maruti product to go on sale through the Premium Nexa outlets. While it’s a really likeable car, somehow, it failed to tickle the taste buds of the car buyers. Now, it looks like the company is all set to give it a much need shot in the arm by launching the mid-life facelift. With our market gradually opening up to crossovers (the Honda WRV is a proof enough), the 2017 Maruti S Cross facelift should have a better chance this time around. Exactly like the current car, even the new version will retail only through the Nexa dealerships.

New Maruti S Cross 2017 India Launch Date

Launch Date (expected) Early October 2017

The 2017 Maruti S Cross facelift is merely days away from its launch. We are pretty sure that this model will go on sale before this year’s Diwali. A festive season launch should give it a strong start due to the higher demand for new cars during this time of the year. We will update you with the exact launch date as soon as the company releases an official word on it.

Bookings– You can book this car at any of the authorized dealerships across the country. The booking amount is Rs 11,000.

New Maruti S Cross 2017 Price in India

Minimum Rs. 8.50 Lakh
Maximum Rs. 11.50 Lakh

The new 2017 model of this crossover comes with a handful of exterior and interior changes along with mild hybrid technology for the 1.3-litre engine. While the pricier 1.6-litre variant has been shown the door, we don’t think prices of the new 2017 Maruti S Cross could be slightly costlier than the original version. This is because of the higher taxation due to the GST introduction. Also, the introduction of the SHVS mild hybrid technology will definitely result in a price increase. We expect the new S Cross facelift 2017 mdel to have a starting price of around Rs 8.5 lakh. The top-end model could cost Rs 12 lakh.

Even though the new car might have a higher asking price, chances are that it will be able to justify it though its new styling, more features and the updated engine with mild hybrid tech.

New Maruti S Cross 2017 Specifications

Engine 1.3-litre DDiS 200 Turbo Diesel with SHVS
Max. Power 89 BHP
Peak Torque 200 Nm
Transmission 5-Speed Manual
ABS Yes
Airbags 2

For the new 2017 model, the flagship car from nation’s largest carmaker ditches the 1.6-litre turbo Diesel engine. It will now offer the 1.3-litre DDIS 200 unit only. However, the Fiat-sourced engine gets the SHVS mild hybrid technology that makes it deliver a higher mileage. SHVS is already being offered on the Ertiga and the Ciaz. This Fiat-sourced turbocharged Diesel engine comes with a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) and goes on to produce a maximum power of 89 BHP and a peak torque of 200 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Basically, Maruti’s Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) aids the engine through a brake energy regeneration and an Integrated Starter Generator. So, basically, the energy produced while applying brakes is changed into electricity through this generator. This electricity is then stored in the battery, which in turn is used to power the alternator. In such a system, the alternator isn’t dependent on the engine for power. Hence, this leads to a slight increase in the car’s average mileage.

New Maruti S Cross 2017 Mileage

City 20 KMPL
Highway 27 KMPL
Overall 23 KMPL

The introduction of SHVS mild hybrid technology should help the new Maruti S Cross 2017 offer a higher average mileage than the current model. Expect the ARAI-certified figure to be somewhere north of 27 KMPL. Even in real world driving conditions, the new model will be able to deliver as much as 23 KMPL on the highway and 20 KMPL in city. The increase in mileage should help the car attract more buyers.

These headlamps offer a projector setup along with stylish LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The new front grille comes finished in chrome and makes the updated car’s front-end look all the more premium. The side profile remains largely the same. The only difference arises out of the more stylish alloy wheels. At the rear, the S Cross 2017 facelift comes with an updated set of taillamps.

We think the facelift looks really more modern than the current model. We have always been fond of the design and styling of this flagship Maruti product. The latest set of styling updates make the car even better in terms of its visual appeal. The car’s front-end looks more modern and attractive. All the changes really work well to make the crossover more attractive

New Maruti S Cross 2017 Interior

In all frankness, the interior doesn’t even get half the number of changes as the exterior. that said, the updates do work well to give the car a more premium feel. The dashboard gets some soft touch plastic while the seats get a new upholstery. The centre console gets some revisions, too. It continues to hold the excellent SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment unit. This 7.0-inch unit offers Android Auto, Mirror Link, and Apple CarPlay.

The interior of the S Cross can easily accommodate five passengers in reasonable comfort. This car scores highly on ergonomics and passenger comfort. With the introduction of the new Maruti SCross facelift 2017, the car should get even better in most of these aspects

New Maruti S Cross 2017 Engine and Gearbox

In most international markets, the Suzuki S-Cross is available with two Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engines – 1.0-litre, three-cylinder and 1.4-litre, four-cylinder. Yes, this is the same 1.0-litre engine that powers the Baleno RS. Anyway, coming back to the S Cross, these motors output 112 BHP-170 Nm and 140 BHP-220 Nm respectively. Both the motors offer two transmission options- 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. ALLGRIP All Wheel Drive system is available as an option on the 1.4-litre Boosterjet variant. The Diesel engine on sale is the same Fiat-sourced 1.6-litre Turbo-Diesel motor that has been available in India as well. This motor produces a maximum power of 120 BHP and a peak torque of 320 Nm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and a DCT and ALLGRIP AWD as optional in Europe. In India, it gets a 6-speed manual gearbox only.

1.6 Engine Variant Axed!

With the 2017 model year facelift, however, the 1.6-litre engine will be no longer available. The updated car will go on sale only with one engine option – Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDIS 200 turbo Diesel engine. This engine produces 89 BHP and 200 Nm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Until now, speculations were rife that the India-spec model will also get a 1.5-liter Petrol engine that outputs 100 BHP-133 Nm. However, it is now for sure that there won’t be a petrol engine option. India will get the 1.3-litre Diesel engine only. The good part is that this engine will now offer Maruti’s SHVS mild hybrid technology. This should lead to a substantial increase in the car’s mileage.
