The Creta comes with a choice of two diesel engines. The first one is a 1.4-litre turbocharged CRDi unit that makes 89BHP power and 220Nm torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox only. The Nexon comes with a 1.2-litre turbocharged RevoTron engine that makes 108 BHP of maximum power and 170Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Nexon offers better fuel economy in both cases. Let’s talk about the petrol engine first. In this case, the Nexon benefits from using a small 1.2-litre turbo petrol RevoTron engine. Not just that, it also comes equipped with different drive modes, which help it in delivering the maximum fuel economy of 17 KMPL (as per ARAI). Since the Creta has a 1.6-litre Dual VTVT petrol engine, its mileage suffers in comparison to Nexon.
In the case of the diesel engine, the Nexon does not have it easy. However, its 1.5-litre turbocharged RevoTorq diesel engine along with driving modes, delivers a respectable mileage of 21.5 KMPL (as per ARAI). The Creta’s 1.4-litre turbocharged CRDi diesel engine is outgunned in this department slightly. The Nexon is a sub-4m compact SUV. Hence, it does not have an edge over the Creta in this respect is what many would have you believe. However, the reality is different. True, the Nexon, at 3,995mm is 275mm shorter than Creta, which is 4,270mm long. As a result, the Creta, at 2,590mm, has 92mm longer wheelbase than Nexon’s 2,498mm.

In terms of width though, the Nexon has the Creta beat. The Nexon, at 1,811mm is 31mm wider than Creta, which is 1,780mm wide. What this means is that while the Creta is more suited to longitudinally-gifted folks, the Nexon is more suitable for generously-proportioned folks. The Nexon is 1,607mm high, which is 27mm less than Creta’s 1,630mm. In terms of features, both cars pretty well-equipped. However, there is still one caveat here – price. The Nexon’s price is such that for the price of a not-so-loaded Creta, you can have the top-spec Nexon Diesel. However, the Creta is not a direct rival of the Nexon. The Nexon sports a refreshing design. There are no hints of making this car look like an SUV. Yes, its stance is that of a jacked-up car. However, with no square wheel arches or the like, this car does not pretend to be an SUV. With bulging wheel arches though, you will not think of this as just another car. This is why the Nexon’s design feels so nice. It feels cohesive and it does not indulge in any false pretenses. The styling elements just add to the design and enhance the car’s appeal.
The front of the car has a wide grille with chrome strips along its top and bottom edges. The grille ends neatly on either end in the car’s headlamps. The fog lamp housings appear minimalistic and rounded off. On the side, there is one character line running from the front door to all the way back of the car. At the back, there is a chrome strip running across the width of the car and it partially surrounds the taillamps. The dual-tone treatment given to the body make it look trendy, helping it stand out in a nice way.
Hyundai Creta
The Creta has been among us for some time now. However, it still looks as handsome as it used to when it came to India. Attribute Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language for making this car look as good as it does. It makes the car look taut and athletic, while making it look flamboyant and upmarket too. A tough job to pull off, but Hyundai did it. Kudos to the South Korean brand for such an achievement.
In terms of styling, the car gets swept-back headlamps (projectors with LED DRLs). The three-slat grille makes this car look handsome. There are trapezoidal fog lamps that you will definitely not miss. There is a character line on the side that is quite prominent from its point of origin on the front fender. It keeps getting thinner as it runs across the length of the car, ending ultimately in the taillamps. At the back, the wrap-around taillamps are narrow and give the rear a sense of minimalism. There is chrome applique on the registration plate housing. Rounding off the elements present on the rear of the Creta is a faux skid plate.

The Nexon’s exterior design theme carries over to the inside too. The Tata Nexon sports a dual-tone black-beige interior colour scheme. This dual tone colour scheme has been given to the dashboard and doors trims. Let’s talk about the dashboard of the car, which looks premium and gives this car’s interior a sense of spaciousness. The dashboard sports a brushed aluminium insert that runs across the width of the dashboard. The steering wheel also has brushed aluminium insert too.
Let’s talk about this interior’s most interesting bit, the centre console. It has a floating touchscreen infotainment unit sitting prominently on the dashboard. It is a 6.5-inch unit and looks great. Below it are two A/c vents for front passengers. Below these are HVAC controls. There are few more switches below to control various car functions. Ahead of these switches sits the gear shifter and a rotary knob to hep switch between Sport, Eco and City driving modes of the car. Ahead of all this sits the sliding tambour door to help you access some storage. All in all, the Nexon’s interior is done cleverly and neatly. Impressive.

The Creta’s interior is quite a nice place to be in. The dual-tone black-beige colour scheme The door trims get the same colour treatment as do the seats. The three-spoke steering wheel has a brushed aluminium insert. The trapeziodal A/C vents have brushbed aluminium inserts too. This interior colour scheme lends the Creta’s interior a sense of spaciousness while giving it a touch of luxury. The centre console is dominated by a touchscreen infotaintment unit measuring 7.0 inches.
Below the infotainment unit sit the HVAC controls, below which sit a few ports to connect your smartphone and other accessories to the car. The Creta’s interior exudes class while looking a bit flamboyant too. This sits well with its exterior design and helps the car look and feel well-rounded on the inside too, just like the outside.
