ARES Design to build new facility in Italy

Ex-Lotus boss Dany Bahar has confirmed ARES Design will build a new coachbuilding facility in Italy, with two new models on the way

Former Lotus CEO Dany Bahar has announced plans to build a new production facility for his ARES Design coachbuilding company. The firm will construct the brand-new 18,000m square site in Modena, Italy – while also confirming two new models for launch.

ARES Design initially launched in 2014, commissioning unique design tweaks to existing luxury car models such as the Mercedes G-Class and Rolls Royce Wraith. In a new statement from Bahar, he also confirmed two new models to the coachbuilders’ line-up.

First up is the ARES X-Raid, a thoroughly redesigned Mercedes AMG G 63, pumping out 760bhp from the existing 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. ARES will also be make a bespoke coupe version of the Bentley Mulsanne, a car due to be fully unveiled next month.

At the announcement, Bahar said: “Our ambition at ARES Design is to provide a unique offer to car enthusiasts: a blend of skills, service and technologies through a network of artisans and craftsmen working under one roof with our own design and technology team.”

Speaking about the new production facility, he said: “[ARES] combines the traditional coach-building principles of the 20th century, defined by companies such as Pininfarina and Zagato, with state-of-the-art technologies such as 3D printing, 3D milling, and carbon-fibre pressing.”

ARES Design has studios all around the world in the USA, Switzerland and Dubai. More announcements will be made in the New Year regarding the growing demand for its specialist services.
