Hennessey Performance has teased a shot of its new Venom F5 hypercar next to a speed limit sign showing 300, hinting that it could be the first car to break the 300mph barrier.
The F5 was first unveiled back in 2014 as a successor to the 270mph Venom GT, which unofficially set a fastest top speed record for a production car.
The Venom F5 shares the same Chevy V8 engine as its predecessor but will have power increased to roughly 1,400bhp in order to eke out the extra 30mph. Back in 2014, the Texas-based company was targeting a 290mph top speed figure for the Venom F5, named after the highest rating on the Fujita scale that measures tornados.
Hennessey has revamped the Exige-based body to ensure it looks virtually nothing like the British sports car it’s based on. The chassis has been tweaked to support the revised clean-sheet carbon fibre body. As a result of the revised carbon fibre body, the F5 should be lighter than the Venom GT, which tipped the scales at 1,244kg.

Bugatti currently holds the official top speed record, which stands at 267.856mph set in 2010 by the Veyron Super Sport. Hennessey holds the unofficial record of 270mph set by the Venom GT but the test was run in one direction and only 12 cars were produced for the road, therefore not fitting the Guinness Book of Records criteria.
The American company will make an official announcement shortly about the potential record-breaking hypercar that will rival the Bugatti Chiron and Koenigsegg Agera RS for the king of speed crown.
