Jayem Neo is basically the Tata Nano Electric Car We’ve All Been Waiting For
The Tata Nano serves as quite an important case study in the Indian automobile sector. The little hatchback, which was launched at an ex-factory price of just Rs 1 lakh, has gone through several updates in its short span of existence. However, sales of the Nano have been far from encouraging as the small car has pretty much failed to capitalize on the initial hype. Now, however, this situation could change with the advent of the Jayem Neo. The Neo is nothing but the electric version of the Nano that will be manufactured and marketed by Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives.
Basically, Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives have formed a JV, wherein the Indian auto giant will supply Nano bodyshells to the electric carmaker. It’s very likely that the Jayem Neo, nay, the electric Nano would be initially available to the fleet market only. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Neo at an event in Hyderabad later this month.

Jayem Neo Launch Date
Like we said, the launch of the Neo is hardly a few days away from us. It’s being said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the electric Nano at an official event in Hyderabad on 28th of this month. The Coimbatore-based company will supply 400 units of this car to Ola Cabs, the popular cab aggregator, on the day of the launch.

Jayem Neo Price in India
While the official price list will be out only on the day of the launch, speculations are rife that the Neo will cost roughly Rs 5 lakh. At this price point, the Nano-based hatchback will become the cheapest four-seater electric car in the market. While the electric Nano will be sold as the Jayem Neo, Tata Motors might launch its own version in the coming months. With this, the company will have as many as three EVs in its product portfolio – Nano EV, Tiago EV, and Tigor EV.
Jayem Neo Specifications
Powering the Jayem Neo aka Tata Neno Electric will be a 48-Volt electric motor that will output 23 bhp of maximum power. The new model is likely to have a kerb weight of roughly 800 KGs. The petrol-powered Nano, which comes with a 623cc twin-cylinder engine, weighs upto 765 KGs. The Neo will offer an ARAI-rated range of 200 KMs on a single charge. With four passengers and air-conditioning, the Electric Nano will offer a range of 140 KMs.
Jayem Neo (Tata Nano Electric) Features
The exact features list will be made available only on the launch date, i.e., on November 28. However, we are pretty sure that the Neo will offer most of the features that are available on the Petrol-powered car. These include –
- Electric power steering
- Air Conditioner
- Front Power Windows
- Central Locking with Remote
- 12V Power Socket
- Bluetooth
- AUX-in
- Multi-Information Display
- Metallic Paint Options
Jayem Neo (Tata Nano Electric) Design
As Tata Motors will be supplying the bodyshells of the Nano to Jayem Automotives, it’s pretty much for sure that the Neo will share all its body panels with the Tata model. There might be some changes in the styling owing to slightly different headlamps, but overall, the Neo will look much like a Nano. Of course, there won’t be even a single Tata badge; the Neo will have Jayem badges and an Electra EV insignia for the electric power system. Also, expect the Neo to wear OLA decals as the initial 400 units will be supplied to the cab aggregator. Tata might launch a more powerful version under its own branding at a later stage.
So, what are your views on the Jayem Neo? Do you think the electric Tata Nano can push the sales of the small hatchback to new heights?
