2018 Maruti WagonR is Rumoured to Make its Debut at the Auto Expo 2018
In a rather surprising development, it has come to light that Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), the country’s largest selling car manufacturer, has been testing the Suzuki Solio on our country’s public roads. Seen below is a spy image of the Solio hatchback that has been taken in Delhi-NCR. Basically, the Suzuki Solio is a premium hatchback that shares its platform with the new generation WagonR. Rumours are rife that this car will be presented at the Auto Expo 2018 as the new 2018 Maruti WagonR.

Codenamed internally as the Project YCA by Maruti Suzuki, the Solio, nay, the new WagonR is expected to offer both five-seater and seven-seater versions. In most international markets, the Solio is sold with five seats. However, looking at the popularity of the WagonR amongst fleet operators, the company might be planning to launch a 7-seater variant. It may be noted here that the company previously showcased an earlier generation of the Solio as the WagonR MPV at an earlier Auto Expo to gauge the interest of show-goers. Since then, there have been many rumours regarding the launch of the larger WagonR. If launched, the 7-seater variant of the new 2018 Maruti WagonR (Suzuki Solio) will go on to rival the likes of Datsun Go+ MPV.
The new 2018 Maruti WagonR will offer best-in-class legroom and headroom, which will be courtesy of the car’s van-like proportions. It is being said that the new car could even offer features like reverse park assist, sat-nav, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Internationally, the Solio has been on sale with petrol-only and petrol-electric hybrid powertrains. In India, the new car will likely share its engine with the current WagonR, which means it will get the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder K10 engine that powers many models in Maruti’s lineup. The 7-seater variant could even offer a 1.2-litre K12 petrol engine that powers the new Swift.
Well, so far, the company has remained rather tight-lipped on its plans to launch a new version of the WagonR. Currently, the tallboy is in its second-generation in India and has already received a minor facelift. While the introduction of the next-generation should happen in near future, let’s not forget that the hatchback has been selling like hot cakes since time immemorial now. Hence, all the rumours of Maruti planning to replace this car should be taken with a pinch of salt. That said, the Auto Expo is almost here and we will soon get to know if the rumours of the new 2018 Maruti WagonR hold any substance.
