Following on from the Bullitt Mustang GT at the Detroit Motor Show, Ford has confirmed a new Mustang Shelby GT500 will arrive in 2019 with a teaser video (below).
Over 700bhp has been promised from the car’s supercharged V8 engine, which is more than twice the amount of power produced by the original 1967 Mustang performance model.
No official images or specific powertrains details have been issued but Ford has said the GT500 will be road legal and the most powerful production Ford in the company’s history.
The model is said to embody the “Ford Performance team’s motorsport expertise,” while the GT500 has been engineered “to stand apart on roadways and race track”. Ford also confirmed ‘innovative track technologies’ and ‘functional track-tuned styling’ will feature.
The GT500 is likely to be a response to vehicles such as the 707bhp Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and 755bhp Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 in the American horsepower race. For buyers in Europe and the UK, however, the GT500 is unlikely to make the trip across the Atlantic.
