Hyundai has given us a glimpse of its upcoming electric Kona SUV ahead of a full reveal at the end of the month

Hyundai is just three weeks away from revealing an all-electric version of its new Kona SUV – and this teaser photo is our first glimpse of what it will look like.

Following its unveiling on February 27th, the new model will be seen in public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March, before going on sale in the summer. According to Hyundai, this will make it the first company to offer an electric compact SUV in Europe, although sister company Kia has been selling an electric version of the Soul for several years.

As yet, very few details about Hyundai’s new electric car have been released, but the company has confirmed that it will be available with a choice of two versions of the powertrain. It has also said that they are targeting a class-leading range of almost 300 miles on a single charge.

Hyundai also promises that the car will have a ‘fun-to-drive character’, as well as ‘a wide range of convenience and connectivity features’ and safety and driver-assistance technologies.

All we have seen of the car so far is this teaser image, but it reveals very little. The only obvious feature is the grille, which looks subtly different to the standard car’s.

It still has the company’s ‘H’ badge on top of a mesh grille, but there are hints that the grille could be solid, as on the electric version of the company’s Ioniq, as well as featuring some blue detailing to mark it out as an electric car.

The electric Kona is the latest in a series of eco-friendly models from Hyundai. It was the first company to mass-produce a fuel-cell vehicle, the ix35, and that car’s successor, the Nexo, has just been unveiled. Plus, with the Ioniq, Hyundai is also the first company to have three electrified powertrains (hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric) available in the same car.

More details about the new Kona EV will be released when it is unveiled on February 27, before it appears on the Hyundai stand at the Geneva Motor Show  a few days later.
