Ford reveals new 2018 Fiesta Van with sporty ST-Line inspired trim

New version of Ford's small Fiesta based van arrives with petrol and diesel options, plus a sporty bodykit

The new Ford Fiesta Van has been revealed at the 2018 Commercial Vehicles show in Birmingham, adding a supermini-sized entry to Ford’s van line-up.

Based on Britain’s best-selling car, the three-door Fiesta Van ditches the rear windows and rear seats, though the rest of the vehicle is virtually unchanged, and even a sporty ST-Line inspired trim will be available.

Under the bonnet, Ford has three offerings – two petrols and a diesel, all of which are plucked from the standard Fiesta line-up. The base Fiesta Van gets a 1.1-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder producing 84bhp, while a perkier, turbocharged 1.0-litre EcoBoost with 123bhp will also be a launch offering. The sole diesel is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDCi unit, available with either 84bhp or 118bhp.

The van conversion means that a load bay approximately 1.0 cubic metre in size is found where the boot and rear three seats would otherwise be. Ford claims that the latest Fiesta Sport Van can carry 500kg, but overall the new model doesn’t make any practicality gains over the previous generation van.

Big changes in the cabin arrive though. Ford’s SYNC 3 eight-inch colour touchscreen infotainment unit can be specced as an optional extra, and sits pride of place in the middle of the heavily updated dashboard. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is available too, while SYNC AppLink means drivers can access a number of popular smartphone apps through the system, including Waze navigation.

New driver assistance and safety features arrive too. A pre-collision warning system with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking is now available, while adaptive cruise control and blind spot warning is also offered. Traffic sign recognition arrives as well.

Above the standard van, the Fiesta Sport Van exists as a more stylish alternative, boasting a bodykit inspired by the Fiesta ST-Line and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the Sport Van gets sportier seats, pedals, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel too. Standard equipment will include an adjustable speed limiter function for the cruise control, and lane keep assist.

Prices for the new Fiesta Van have not yet been revealed, though order books will open this spring, with first UK deliveries pencilled in the calendar for this autumn.
