Lexus has revealed the first official image of its all-new ES saloon, a rival for the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. The car will make its debut at the Beijing Motor Show at the end of April.
The teaser shot doesn’t give much away but shows the ES will wear Lexus’ distinctive spindle front grille and angular headlamp design. At first glance the mid-size saloon shares a close resemblance to the Japanese brand’s flagship model, the LS.
Lexus says the new ES will “transform the concept of comfort for luxury consumers all over the world.” For the first time the ES is also expected to be sold in the UK, replacing the current GS as the brand’s mid-size executive saloon.
Beneath the skin the new ES is expected to make the switch to the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), which underpins the current Prius and C-HR crossover. The engine line-up will be dominated by petrol hybrid powertrains given the brand’s focus on the technology and customer appetite for the powertrains.
The ES has been in Lexus’ product lineup since 1989. It is one of the Japanese brand’s best sellers, sitting just behind the RX and NX SUVs, thanks to its popularity in the US.
