The 2018 Toyota Yaris comes to India only with a petrol engine in its model line-up. It offers up to eight segment first features which include 7-airbags as standard across the range. Toyota will launch the Yaris in India in the month of May this year. Will compete against the likes of Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and the Hyundai Verna.
In May this year, Toyota India will introduce an all-new vehicle in the mid-size executive sedan segment in India. Called the Yaris, it will consequently compete with the likes of Maruti Ciazx, Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. Toyota has made sure that the Yaris stands a very strong product in the market. Hence it has given it a wide array of features and creature comforts. The Yaris comes with up to eight segment first features, depending upon the variant chosen. One of which is 7-airbags which will be offered as standard across the range. The exterior profile of the India bound Yaris looks very premium. Similarly, the interiors are a nice place to be in as well.
Since 80 percent of the total buyers in the mid-size sedan segment in India opt for a petrol derivative, the Yaris will come to India only with a petrol engine in its line-up. In addition to this, the automaker has decided to launch this car as standard with an automatic CVT gearbox. Toyota Yaris India Launch Date
As mentioned before, we expect Toyota to launch the Yaris sedan in India sometime during the month of May this year. Bookings for the sedan are already underway. Booking amount is set at INR 51,000.

The 2018 Toyota Yaris will be manufactured at the company’s plant in Karnataka. The automaker plans on deploying high percentage of localized parts to keep the price in check. We expect the upcoming mid-size sedan to be priced competitively with an estimated range of INR 8.4 lakh to INR 13.7 lakh undercutting the Honda City by a healthy margin. The Honda City ranges between INR 8.7 to INR 13.7 lakh ex-showroom.

Powering the upcoming 2018 Toyota Yaris will be the 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. Initially, the Yaris will be offered with the petrol option only. The 1.5-litre unit powering the Yaris will produce 108 bhp of power and 137 Nm of torque. This engine is a recent introduction. Earlier, the sedan had a 1.3-litre engine at its disposal. On offer will be a 6-speed manual transmission along with a 7-step CVT unit.

Toyota Yaris India Mileage
The 1.5-litre petrol engine in the Yaris is expected to give a mileage of 15 to 17 km/l. Toyota is playing safe by introducing only a petrol engine. This is because the cloud over the future of diesel cars is still quite thick. The automaker suffered quite a lot when the diesel ban was imposed in Delhi-NCR recently.

Comparing the 2018 Toyota Yaris to its competitors, the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz The City extends to 4,440mm, Ciaz features a length of 4,490 mm and the Verna gets 4,370 mm. The Toyota Yaris holds a length of 4,425 which is clearly shorter than most of its rivals. When it comes to the wheelbase, the City features 2,600 mm, Ciaz gets 2,650 and the Verna gets 2,570. The Yaris features a wheelbase of 2,550 mm which is the shortest in the segment. While the Verna is shorter in length, it surprisingly offers better wheelbase than the Yaris. In terms of width though, the Yaris is neck to neck with its rivals holding a width of 1,730 mm, similar to that of the Ciaz.

Toyota Yaris India Exterior Design
From the outside, the 2018 Yaris looks very premium and mature. It has Toyota’s traditional styling. From the front, you can see that the sedan’s design is somewhat inspired from its elder sibling, the Corolla Altis. The sleek headlamps and the large grille provide this car with a very appealing look. The side profile of the Yaris is very curvaceous. Unlike its competitors, the City and Ciaz, the Yaris looks somewhat neat and simple. Towards the rear, the sedan gets elongated tail-lamps. The boot lid comes with simple styling.

In India, the Yaris will retail in a total of four variants. These are namely J, G, V and VX. All the variants will get the 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 7-Step CVT automatic gearbox as standard. However, only the J, G and the V trims will offer the 6-Speed manual gearbox as an option.
