While many believe the Ignis has replaced the Ritz in Maruti’s product portfolio, that is not exactly the case. This hatchback, while being dimensionally similar to the Ritz, is much different. For starters, you get a more premium cabin with more features and better materials. And then, there’s the definite crossover appeal due to several SUV-ish elements and the stance. Besides, it is on sale exclusively through Nexa dealerships and not available at the regular Maruti Suzuki. This is because the Ignis aims to attract buyers looking for a premium product.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Review – Exterior Design
The Ignis doesn’t look bland by any stretch of imagination. Its large wheels are pushed to the very corners, which give it a sporty stance. We also like some unique design features such as the ‘sunglass-clad’ front fascia, helmet-like roof and the vents on the C-Pillar. Styling cues seen on the Ignis have been inspired from multiple Suzuki models of the past. Bits like the clamshell bonnet, black A and B pillars, headlamps, C-pillar slits, all have taken inspiration from older Suzuki cars.
Overall, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is very different from any other product that is or has been on sale in India till now. It’s tall, the SUV-like stance should appeal to the SUV-crazed Indian car buyers.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Interior Review
Much like the exterior, the interior of the Maruti Ignis features some interesting design elements as well. Unlike every other Maruti product on sale right now, the steering wheel design is new. The centrally mounted touchscreen unit doesn’t sit flush with the rectangular AC vents on either side. The cabin is feature rich and the top end variants get a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, colour MID, climate control, electric adjust and fold for the ORVMs and more. The image here shows body colour highlights as well, which will be on offer.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Colours
The Ignis is available in the following 6 basic colours –
- Pearl Arctic White
- Silky Silver
- Glistening Grey
- Uptown Red
- Tinsel Blue
- Urban Blue
Aside from the basic colour options, Maruti will also offer high levels of exterior customization. There will be dual tone paint schemes available, along with custom wraps for the roof. Dual tone paint schemes include –
- Uptown Red with Midnight Black roof
- Tinsel Blue with Midnight Black roof
- Tinsel Blue with Pearl Arctic White roof
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Engine and Transmission Options
Maruti’s latest compact car offering gets the usual set of 1.2 L Petrol and 1.3 L Diesel engines. In both cases, a 5-speed manual transmission is standard. Although initial reports suggested the Ignis petrol will feature an optional CVT automatic gearbox, that is not the case. Instead, it gets a 5-speed AMT to keep costs in check. Also, the Ignis diesel is available with a 5-speed AMT, making it the first Maruti Suzuki product to offer AMTs on both petrol and diesel versions. Maruti will not launch the car with an optional AWD system.
