Volvo XC40 SUV India Launch Details And Price Expectation

Volvo XC40 has been launched globally and is expected to come to India this July. The car will be imported as a Completely Build Unit. So, the specs and features of the car will be same as the international version. Here, we talk about the expected price, expected launch date, specs and features of the SUV.

Considered as one of the safest SUVs, the Swedish car-maker, Volvo, is launching a Compact SUV. Volvo XC40 is the first SUV from the 40 series and is considered as one of the safest and well-equipped SUVs globally. It has been launched globally, as barring some mechanical changes, the rest of the car will be available with same specs in the Indian version. Also, it is built on an EV compatible platform. It is expected to launch in India by July. The SUV will mainly compete with Audi Q3, BMW X1, Jaguar E-Pace and Mercedes Benz GLA. Considering the competition, the SUV is expected to cost between Rs 35 Lakhs to Rs 40 Lakhs. Globally, XC40 will come in Momentum and Inscription trims along with R-Design and First – Edition variants. However, the Indian version will come in a single mid-level R-Design variant only.

The SUV is likely to launch in July 2018, as it is already out in Europe.

Rs 35 Lakhs to Rs 40 Lakhs (ex-showroom)

Considering that XC 40 will be the cheapest SUV from Volvo and will sit below the XC 60, it is likely to cost between Rs 35 Lakhs to Rs 40 Lakhs. It might cost nearing 40 Lakhs because it will be imported as a CBU. Also, the price is considered given to the competition it faces in India. In India, only the mid-spec variant is going to launch.

The Indian version of XC 40 will get a 4-cylinder turbo-charged 2.0 L diesel engine. Globally, the SUV also comes in petrol variants. The diesel engine produces 190 BHP worth of power and 400 Nm worth of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed Geartronic Automatic transmission.

Most of the styling elements of the XC 40 have been copied from the XC90, however, some of the elements like the spoilers and the bumpers are different from its sibling. It sports a tall boy stance with some sporty elements like Thor’s hammer headlamps. It copies the chromed grille, front sporty bumper and the contrasting colour roof from XC90. The headlamps, L-shaped tail lights and the 18-inch alloy wheels are standard. It also features LED DRLs in Thor’s hammer. In the rear, it also gets a rear wiper with washer and 2 rectangle-shaped exhausts. It gets a triple-tone colour treatment with 2 colour schemes. Overall, yes it looks sporty and bigger than some of its competitors. It has a large wheelbase, which makes it look bigger.

Volvo XC40 Interior

Again, some of the elements from its elder siblings are put in the XC40’s interiors. From the inside, the SUV looks superb and just too elegant. The SUV gets a 9-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment, three-spoke steering wheel with functions mounted and GPS navigation on the digital instrument cluster. It also gets a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon music system and rear parking sensors with a camera. It gets heavy chrome fillings inside the car, like on the gear knobs and the steering wheel. In terms of storage, it offers storage spaces in the centre console, under the front seats and in the removable bin and car slots on the dashboard.

In terms of features, Volvo XC40 does not fall behind. It gets very notable features, some of which are found in its elder siblings too. Following are the features of the SUV:

As it is a premium Compact SUV, it will compete with BMW X1, the upcoming Jaguar E-Pace, Audi Q3 and Mercedes Benz GLA. Most of these SUVs fall in the range of 31 Lakhs to Rs 45 Lakhs. Currently, in this segment, GLA is the cheapest option and BMW X1 is the most expensive option. The Jaguar E-Pace is also a compact SUV and the entry-level car of the brand. It is also expected to launch in Late 2018.
