Bajaj Car (Qute) Quadricycle CNG Variant Spotted Testing; Launch Soon

With the Government legalizing Quadricycles in India, the Bajaj car (Qute) is expected to make its debut soon. It will not retail in our country for private use. And aims at the three-wheeler commercial segment.

Bajaj revealed its quadricycle Qute in India close to six years ago. The idea behind this commercial four-wheeler was that it would work as the right fit in the three-wheeler segment in India. But due to no provision for such vehicles in the Motor Vehicles Act, the bike manufacturer has been waiting to launch the Qute on Indian roads close to half a decade. However, with the Indian Government finally giving the green signal to Quadricycles in India, it seems we might soon start seeing this vehicle on our roads soon.

It seems Bajaj has started working in full-pace to launch the Qute car in India. Recently, a spy image of the CNG variant of the Qute Bajaj car surfaced on the internet. Bajaj is already manufacturing this vehicle in India. However, all these units are for export markets like Sri Lanka, the Maldives among others. And these versions are available with a 200cc, single cylinder DTS-i engine. This petrol engine is capable of producing 20 BHP of power. The engine promises a top speed of 70 km/h with a mileage of 35 km/l.

The vehicle seen in the images is the CNG variant of the small Bajaj car. And it is powered by the same 200cc engine. However, it runs on CNG gas. Earlier there were rumours stating that the Qute is likely to cost somewhere around the mark of INR 60,000. However, we believe that these claims are baseless. And the estimated starting price of Bajaj’s small car is around INR 1.40 lakh.

Another rumour was that the Bajaj car, the Qute quadricycle will replace the Tata Nano as the cheapest car in India. As it turns out, though the Qute will retail at a lesser price than the Nano, it is not necessarily is a car as such. You see, this four-wheeler is manufactured only for commercial use. After its launch, Bajaj aims to target the three-wheeler segment in India with this vehicle.

With the Qute being such a small car, there are obvious concerns about it being not safe. However, Bajaj says that they have worked on this vehicle extensively and hence, it meets all the standard safety norms. Though there is still no official date pertaining to the launch of the Qute in India, expect it to debut in our country within the next couple of months.
