BMW 5-Series (F10) Used Car Video Review

Our latest Used Car Review is dedicated to the BMW 5 Series, and in particular the sixth-generation model, known as the F10. Built between 2010 and 2016 it was sold in saloon and Touring (estate) forms and with a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains.

In our CarGurus Used Car Video Review we explain the pros and cons of each, as well as flag a few areas to look out for. For example, not all saloons come with folding rear seats, which is a consideration if you want to be able to extend the load bay, and while some models ride the bumps with ease others can feel less accomplished depending upon specification.

The car in our video is a 530d, sourced from used car supermarket Fords of Winsford. Finished in silver and riding on 18-inch alloy wheels it certainly looks the part, while on the inside the  superb leather seats, excellent driving position and hi-tech iDrive infotainment system make it feel suitably upmarket.

As you’d expect of a big BMW the 5 Series chews through long journeys with ease, with plenty of power and little in the way of wind or engine noise to disturb the peace. Yet on your favourite B-road it is still a car that will entertain, for which you can thank a superbly balanced chassis and steering that feels particularly well weighted.

If that all sounds too good to be true it pays to remember that while used prices can look tempting the 5 Series is still far from a cheap car in the grand scheme of things. That’s one of the reasons why it’s so important to know you’re getting a fair deal, which is where CarGurus Instant Market Value tool will help by analysing the prices of similar cars listed for sale in your search area and showing how models compare.

That’s not to say running costs need be prohibitive, however. Indeed, if you opt for the 520d with its 2.0-litre diesel engine it is possible to see upwards of 45mpg on longer journeys, plus low CO2 emissions mean tax can cost from just £30 per year on certain versions (do always check this prior to purchase, however). What makes this all the more remarkable is that there is no example of the F10 5 Series that could be described as slow, while models with six- or eight-cylinder engines are positively rapid.

You can find out more about these various models, as well as learn about areas where potential problems could be hiding, by watching our full used car video review. Then head to the CarGurus UK website to find your perfect used BMW 5 Series for sale.
