Maruti Baleno Facelift is expected to launch in India around the first quarter of 2019. Apart from its cosmetic upgrades, it will also get new petrol and diesel engines. These will meet the upcoming BS-VI emission norms.
We have every reason to believe that either by the first half of 2019, Maruti Suzuki will introduce an update for the Baleno hatchback. This update is essentially going to be the mid-life for this vehicle. Apart from all the cosmetic updates that this car will receive, it is likely that Maruti will also upgrade Baleno’s engine specifications. Since new emission norms come into effect starting April 2020, we are expecting this hatch to get BS VI spec engines. Hence, the current 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel are likely to be replaced by a new set of engines. Transmission options are likely to remain the same as before.
The reason for upgrading the engine specifications is that Fiat does not plan to upgrade the 1.3-litre motor to meet BS-VI pollution norms. According to Government regulations, starting 2020, all cars sold in India should be BS-VI complaint. Before the Baleno Facelift, Maruti could introduce this engine in the Ciaz or the Ertiga Facelift. Want to know more about the upcoming new Baleno?
