Maruti Suzuki Ignis Diesel Variant Discontinued – Report

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Diesel variant has been discontinued in India. The reports are fresh as many dealerships across India have stopped its booking. According to our sources, a dealer In Delhi has confirmed the news. Read on to know why has the peppy hatchback’s diesel variant discontinued.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis, a peppy machine, is one of the latest onboard from Maruti Suzuki. It gets an altogether new design cue, which is quite unexpected of Maruti. It starts from Rs 4.66 Lakhs and goes up to Rs 8.12 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). However, fresh reports suggest that the Ignis Diesel variant has been discontinued and is no longer available at dealerships. Ignis was launched in Petrol and Diesel variants, but the diesel one was not much in demand since its launch. The possible reason for this is because the diesel variant went up to Rs 8 Lakhs for the top-end spec. A small diesel car priced for Rs 8 Lakhs was not much in demand. Although, Maruti already has its premium hatchback, Baleno in this price range. CarBlogIndia has confirmed it with dealers in Delhi who have stated that they had stopped the bookings 2-3 months ago itself.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis diesel started from Rs 6.32 Lakhs which went on to Rs 8.12 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). In the compact premium hatchback segment, Maruti already had the Swift, which is priced much cheaper. This was an addition in the compact premium hatchback lineup. Ignis offered serious sporty and classy looks, much better than most of the Maruti Suzuki cars. On the interiors also, the car looked elegant. The dual-tone colour was a must as it came with every colour. It is basically a peppy hatchback with good riding quality.

Ignis is basically built on Baleno’s platform and it gets some features from the elder Nexa car. It also borrows the 1.2 Litre K-Series petrol engine and the 1.3 Litre DDiS diesel engine from the Swift and Baleno. However, amidst growing competition between premium hatchbacks and compact ones, this little one found it tough to survive. It basically came between the cars in both of the hatchback categories. It competes with Honda’s Jazz and Brio, Hyundai’s Grand i10 and i20, Tata Tiago, Volkswagen Polo and more such hatchbacks.

Like the usual Maruti cars, this one also gets premium features in the top-spec only. The Alpha variant gets LED Projector headlamps, LED DRLs, SmartPlay Infotainment System, Push Start, Remote Keyless Entry, Auto Climate Control, Reverse parking sensors with camera and more. However, out of the 4 variants, most of these features are found only in the top-end trim. Zeta variant gets some of them, which makes it almost premium.
