Tata’s upcoming premium hatchback, 45X has been spotted for the first time. It was spotted in Thane with heavy camouflage. The Tata 45X spied images suggest that the production model could launch in 2019. It will compete with Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Baleno, Volkswagen Polo and other hatchbacks in that range.
Tata is gearing up for a late entry in the premium hatchback segment with its upcoming Tata 45X. It was showcased at 2018 Auto Expo and was one of the eye catchers of the event. Expect the production-ready avatar of this vehicle to launch in India sometime in-between the year 2019-20. Just like the current breed of Tata cars, this one will also have a very attractive exterior profile. For the first time, it is going for the premium hatchbacks. The car is expected to cost between Rs 5 Lakhs to Rs 9 Lakhs. While most of the Indians are looking for premium hatchbacks which are small and offer top features, this segment is quite competitive. Tata hatchback will compete with Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz and Fiat Punto.

The Tata 45X spied images suggest that the hatchback will have a similar shape to the concept design, with a sharp rise in the rear and ORVMs. It gets a C-Pillar type rear door handle. However, the tail lights can be seen different from the concept design. It can be seen that the instrument cluster is also visible in the photos. It looks like the car gets two analogue dials with a digital driver information display. As the car was heavily camouflaged, only these things could be noticed. The information from Zigwheels says that there were more than one test mules and one of them hade a floating touchscreen infotainment.

The concept design of the 45X came with ultra-modern interiors with a fully digital wide multimedia display with a race-type steering wheel. The multimedia centre displays speedometer, navigation, tachometer and other information. However, the hatchback would not get such design cues, but it could get some good interior styling cues. Nexon’s success has restored people’s faith in Tata and this hatchback is also expected to turn out good.

The mechanical details of the Tata 45X have not been revealed yet, however, Tata 45X is likely to come in petrol and diesel variants. It is speculated to borrow the engine from its elder sibling, Tata Nexon. The petrol variant will be powered by a 1.2 Litre engine that produces 108 BHP worth of power and 170 Nm worth of torque. The diesel variant will be powered by a 1.5 Litre engine that produces 108 BHP worth of power and 208 Nm worth of torque. It is speculated to come with a six-speed transmission and an AMT option in the top end variant.

In the top variants of the Tata 45X, automatic climate control, keyless entry, start-stop button, touch infotainment system and more such features might come. In terms of safety, it might get ABS with airbags, EBD, ESP and some extra features.
