Seems like Tata is putting another entrant in the premium SUV segment. The Tata H5X SUV was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018, has been spied multiple times while testing. Just like the Hexa, it will come with premium features with a price tag of more than Rs 16 Lakhs onwards. Read on to know more about the upcoming SUV.
The premium SUV segment offers some premium SUVs under Rs 25 Lakhs. Moreover, people are considering buying an SUV more because it offers the same comfort as a sedan and is more spacious than one. Various automobile brands such as Tata, Jeep, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu and Mahindra have their SUVs in this segment. The upcoming Tata H5X, a premium offering by Tata Motors, is going to enter this segment along with the Hexa. It is based on Tata ‘s New Design Philosophy 2.0, which makes it more stronger and lighter. Unlike Hexa, this one will have a shorter wheelbase. Speculations are that it might get a petrol engine along with the diesel one. Down the line, after 2-3 years, it might get a Hybrid version too. It gets some off-roading features like different driving modes, traction control and more. Expect the SUV to cost starting from Rs 16 Lakhs onwards.
H5X will be launched as another 5 seater SUV in the premium price range. In this range, it will compete with Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass mainly. The SUV looks sporty and quite bulky in its form. The spy shots reveal the big body, a large wheelbase and an extended rear body of the SUV. Also, there have been rumours about a seven-seater variant of H5X, named as H7X will be launched too. It is rumoured to launch after the launch of H5X and will take on the likes of Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.

Tata H5X Design:
Tata H5X will be based on the new Tata Motors’ Impact 2.0 design philosophy. Also, it will be sharing the Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA) platform which is found in Range Rover Discovery Sport. Like said, it might take a lot of underpinnings from the Discovery Sport. The car might come with a 4-wheel drive and would have multiple driving modes. Also, there might be a specially tuned mode for off-road driving.
Tata H5X Exteriors:
The H5X gets the boldface and the slim LED headlights giving it a mean look. It also comes with the company’s trademark ‘humanity line’ that connects the headlights and grille. All this makes the car look bolder and sharper. The Tata H5X will feature flared wheel arches, the tri-arrow design on the front bumper, dual-tone bumper, LED headlight, wraparound tail light cluster and skid plate.

Tata H5X Interiors:
Interestingly, H5X gets a clutter-free design and the material quality of the interiors display a sense of class. The car might get a digital console displaying things like the whole body of the car, traffic sense and such. It will also get a high-end touch infotainment system with climate control, voice control commands and such. Various reports suggest that everything displayed will be digital and via a touchscreen.

Various reports suggest that the Tata H5X is expected to get power from a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine producing around 140bhp worth of power and 350 Nm worth of torque. The engine will be mated to a ZF-sourced 9-speed automatic transmission. The mileage is estimated to be around 15 KMPL. The car will come in both manual and automatic transmission. The SUV is also speculated to have a petrol variant after which a hybrid variant would also launch in the lineup. However, the details of the engine are not out yet. Also, it might get an optional 4X4 system.

Most of them have either received an update this year or will receive one in the next year. However, the H5X will make a late entry into this market. Currently, the MPV Tata Hexa is available in this segment.
