2018 Suzuki Jimny SUV prices and specs are revealed, as the SUV has been launched in the Japanese market. After converting its price in Yen to Indian rupees, the mini off-roader starts from 9.6 Lakhs to Rs 12.82 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It will come in three variants globally – XG, XL and XC.
2018 Suzuki Jimny SUV has been launched in Japan and the prices and specs are revealed. The Jimny is priced from Rs 9.06 Lakhs to Rs 11.85 Lakhs and the Sierra is priced from Rs 10.94 Lakhs to Rs 12.82 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It is a compact SUV-cum-mini off-roader, which gets most of the off-roading features too. We speculate that the Jimny might launch in India in 2019 in the guise of new Gypsy. If it comes to India, we expect it to be priced between Rs 6.5 lakhs to Rs 9 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Also, the engine specs of the SUV are out. The Jimny gets a turbocharged 0.7-litre petrol engine churning out 64BHP of power and 96Nm worth of torque. Sierra gets a 1.5 Litre Turbocharged Petrol engine 102 BHP of power and 130 Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed MT or 4-speed AT.

Main Features of the SUV include Projector Headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lights, Keyless Entry, Automatic Climate Control, Push-Button Start-Stop, Touchscreen Infotainment System and a Reverse Parking Camera. Other features include headlamps washer, cruise control and Electric ORVM mounted LED indicators. For safety, the SUV uses dual sensing brake support, ABS, shock absorbing seat design, forward braking assist, ESP, EBD and standard fitting of dual airbags.

For off-roading, it gets a part-time 4WD system with low range transfer gear. According to Suzuki, the Jimny can overcome muddy pits” and “manoeuvre through dense woods and massive rocks”. While it certainly looks like a mini G-Wagon, it is built on a ladder frame chassis. It also gets the circular headlamps with the headlamp washer. It gets 16-inch alloy wheels, helping it for off-roading. The SUV gets a boxy-shape with premium colour schemes. In the interiors also, you can feel the premium touch as it copies many interior design elements from other Suzuki models.

We expect The 2018 Suzuki Jimny SUV to come to India in 2019 as the new Maruti Gypsy. The 2nd generation of Jimny looked quite similar to the Gypsy. Gypsy remains to be one of the oldest serving cars in India. Still, Gypsy is one of the most preferred choices when it comes to serious off-roading and all those dirt racing events.
