Bajaj Avenger 400 India Launch Likely? We Explain!

We take on the speculative Bajaj Avenger 400. For quite a few time, these rumours have been going around. There might be a possibility of the launch by the end of this year or early 2019. Check out the details that we expect from this cruiser.

Bajaj Avenger is the cheapest cruiser series of India. It starts from around Rs 85,000 (ex-showroom). Currently, it is available in Street and Cruise variants with 180cc and 220cc engines. The most powerful Bajaj bike is the Dominar 400, which does not qualify for the proper cruiser. So, the need is felt for a more powerful Bajaj Avenger, so that it can take on the might goliaths, the Royal Enfield. It will get the 373cc engine of the Dominar.  Prices are likely to start around Rs 1.4 lakh mark. However, it would still retain its old-school looks with chrome inserts. The features of the cruiser would include ABS, Projector headlamps, 6-speed transmission, fully digital speedometer and more. Here we have done an article citing the specs that this cruiser might come with.

The upcoming new Bajaj Avenger 400 will help Bajaj Auto Ltd gain a stronger foothold in the above-300cc segment of the Indian motorcycle market. Currently, the Avenger range comprises of three motorcycles- Street 150, Street 220 and Cruise 220. So far, the company has managed to sell as many as 55,021 units of the latest avatar of its cruiser in the first six months of the current financial year. A more powerful variant, with much healthier specifications, will not only help the motorcycle achieve higher sales but will also help the company enhance its brand image.

It is being said that Bajaj Auto Ltd plans to achieve a 20 per cent year-on-year growth in the H2 of the current financial year. Thanks to the introduction of BS-IV emissions and demonetization, the company hasn’t been able to achieve a significant growth this year. Even the launch of new products like the NS160, CT100 ES, Platina ES and 2017 Platina Comfortec couldn’t help the company grow exponentially. However, the upcoming range of new motorcycles, which includes the Avenger 400, should help the company achieve greater heights.

The launch of the new 2018 Bajaj Avenger 400 will be followed by a new motorcycle in the V range. The upcoming Bajaj V model will become the most affordable motorcycle in the V family. There are good chances that this motorcycle, which will launch as the Bajaj V10, will find itself slotted between the CT100 and the V12.

2018 Bajaj Avenger 400 Launch Date

Launch Date December 2018

A recent report from Autocar Professional states that the upcoming Avenger model will launch in December 2018. So far, the company hasn’t been too vocal about the launch date of the most powerful version of its cruiser motorcycle. However, we will update you with concrete information on the launch date as soon as there is an official announcement regarding the same.

2018 Bajaj Avenger 400 Price

Minimum Rs 1.4 Lakh
Maximum Rs 1.6 Lakh

The Pune-based motorcycle company has always made it a point to price its models really very competitively. We saw the Dominar 400 going on sale at an almost astonishingly low price of around Rs 1.34 lakh. Now, it seems like its the Avenger’s turn to surprise everyone. We are expecting the new model Avenger to go on sale in Rs 1.4 – 1.6 lakh price bracket.

Engine 373.2 cc, single-cylinder
Maximum Power 34 PS (Expected)
Maximum Torque 36 NM (Expected)

No. of Gears 6

The upcoming 2018 Avenger 400 will share its engine with the Dominar 400. However, we do expect the company to re-tune the engine to suit the cruiser-bike characteristics of the Avenger. For the Dominar, this KTM-sourced 373.3cc single-cylinder engine outputs a maximum power of 35 PS along with a peak torque of 35 Nm. The upcoming new Avenger model, in all likelihood, will offer marginally lesser power but slightly higher torque. For the Avenger 400, this engine is likely to output 34 PS and 36 Nm. The motor will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The motorcycle will get wider tyres, conventional long-travel telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. ABS might be offered as an optional extra.

2018 Bajaj Avenger 400 Looks

The upcoming motorcycle is likely to be based on the Cruise trim of the motorcycle. That said, it will likely look a lot more premium than the 220cc version. We are impressed with the design of the Dominar 400, which looks like a watered-down version of the Ducati Diavel. Bajaj might come up with something equally attractive and neo-modern with the Avenger 400. One thing that is for sure is that the motorcycle will have a cruiser body type. We might even see bits like a round headlamp with LED fixtures, which will give the motorcycle a neo-retro look.
