The Ford Aspire 2018 facelift model is likely to launch in India this year. Major updates will include a new 1.2-litre petrol engine from Ford’s Dragon series and the SYNC3 infotainment system in the top-of-the-range variants.
Ford India is on the verge of introducing a mid-life facelift version for the Aspire compact sedan in India. The recent development indicates that the American automaker will launch the Aspire Facelift in India sometime within the next couple of months. The compact sedan will get major alterations in its design department. The changes will be in line with the one that we saw on the Ford Freestyle which was launched just a couple of months back. In addition to these, the Aspire will also have a new 1.2-litre petrol engine from Ford’s Dragon series. Furthermore, the top-of-the-line variants of this vehicle are going to come with the automaker’s SYNC3 infotainment system.
As you can see in the spy images of the Aspire facelift we have below, the test mules have been caught wearing a heavy camouflage. This suggests that the car will get some major changes, at least at its front-end. Other than the styling tweaks, the car will also get many new features, at least for the top-end trims. The most important change, however, will be mechanical in nature. The current 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine will be replaced by a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder Petrol motor from Ford’s Dragon series of engine. The new engine will not only have a better performance but will also offer a higher fuel mileage. Other than the new 1.2 engine, the car will continue to offer 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre Diesel engines.

The Aspire facelift will offer a host of new features. We are expecting the addition of Ford’s excellent SYNC 3 infotainment system that offers voice control, USB, AUX-in, Bluetooth connectivity, and telephony feature along with an 8-inch touchscreen interface. Other than this, the infotainment unit also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity. Akin to the current model, the upcoming facelift, upon its market launch, will go on to rival the likes of Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Volkswagen Ameo.

As can be seen in the spy images, the test mule wears quite a heavy camouflage. While we don’t expect really major changes in the design, it’s pretty much for sure that Ford has planned some substantial styling updates for its compact sedan. Recent developments suggest that Ford might launch the updated Aspire in India sometime during the month of June 2018.

Currently, the Aspire sedan is on sale in a price range of Rs 5.30 lakh to Rs 7.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelift will cost a bit more. The price rise will be due to the additional features, a new engine, and a more modern look. Safely expect prices of the updated compact sedan to start at Rs 5.45 lakh. The top-end model could cost as much as Rs 7.90 lakh. We are pretty sure that the facelift will be able to justify the price increase through a more modern styling, a better petrol engine and many more features.

The Aspire is currently available with three engine options – 1.2-litre Petrol, 1.5-Litre Petrol, and 1.5-litre Diesel. While the 1.5-litre units will be carried over to the facelift, the current 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit will be replaced by a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder motor from Ford’s Dragon series of engines. The new engine will output 82 BHP and 115 Nm. The bigger petrol engine goes on to output 110 BHP and 146 Nm. The Diesel engine offers 99 BHP and 215 Nm. While all the 1.2-litre Petrol and the 1.5-litre Diesel engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the 1.5-litre petrol engine has a 6-speed Dual Clutch automatic transmission.

It’s worth a mention here that the current 1.2-litre engine has received a lot flak for its rather lack-lustre low-end and a mediocre fuel mileage. However, all this is likely to change with the advent of the new three-cylinder engine. This 1.2-litre motor will be also available on the upcoming new 2018 Figo facelift and the Figo Cross.

Like we just told you, the 1.5-litre Petrol and Diesel engines remain unchanged in terms of specifications. Therefore, even the mileage they will deliver remains the same. The new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine, on the other hand, is sure to offer a higher mileage than the current 1.2 motor. We expect a peak mileage of 21 KMPL from this engine. In comparison, the Figo’s current 1.2-litre engine outputs approximately 19 KMPL.
It may be noted that thanks to a lacklustre low-end, the engine fails to deliver a very high mileage in the real-world driving conditions. There are good chances that all this will change with the introduction of the new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Dragon series engine.
