Honda Civic Diesel Automatic has been revealed globally. It gets a new 9-speed gearbox. This diesel engine plus 9-speed gearbox combo might be put in the upcoming Honda CR-V. However, India bound Civic will be a refreshed version of this model, which is yet to be revealed globally.
Honda Civic is going to relaunch in India after it last came in 2013. Back then, it looked like a futuristic premium sedan with the latest features. Meanwhile, Honda Civic Diesel Automatic has been revealed globally. For the first time, Honda gets an automatic gearbox in a Civic diesel variant. In India also, only Amaze gets a diesel Automatic version. It gets a 9-speed automatic gearbox, which can easily skip gears for better fuel economy. This combination might feature in the upcoming Honda CR-V. Civic also is going to relaunch in India in 2019. The latest reports reveal that the India-spec version would not be based on the current global version. A new refreshed version of the sedan will be launched, which will then come to India.

Currently, the Civic uses a 1.6 Litre diesel engine that produces 160 BHP @ 4000 RPM of power and 300 Nm @ 2000 RPM torque. It also comes with a 1.8 Litre petrol engine that produces 139 BHP @ 6500 RPM of power and 174 Nm @ 4300 RPM of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed Manual Transmission with an optional 6-speed CVT. Honda also says that the nine-speed gearbox can skip through gears directly from ninth to fifth, or say from seventh to fourth, in fully automatic mode. The petrol engine offers a mileage of around 12-14 KMPL and the diesel one goes up to Rs 22 KMPL. The Honda Civic Diesel automatic will offer around 20 KMPL of mileage.
Features of the sedan include LED Projector Headlamps and DRLs, Electric Sunroof, 7-inch Touch Infotainment System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Auto Dimming rear view mirror, Heated seats and many more premium features. For safety, it will get Reverse parking sensors with Multi-angle rearview camera, ABS with EBD and 6 Airbags, Brake Assist, Collision Mitigation braking system, Forward Collision Warning, Hill Climb and Descent Assist and Vehicle Stability Program.

We expect the prices to start at around Rs 14 Lakhs to Rs 20 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The top-spec trim might be pricey, but Honda always places its car costlier than its competitors. At this price, it will take on Skoda Octavia, Corolla Altis and Hyundai Elantra. Hyundai Elantra costs between Rs 13.29 Lakhs to Rs 19.33 Lakhs and Octavia starts from Rs 16.02 Lakhs to Rs 24.49 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom).
