Kia SP Concept made its Indian debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. By the year 2019, it will spawn a compact urban SUV which will rival against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the upcoming Jeep Renegade.
Kia Motors, a subsidiary of Hyundai, has made its official debut in India. The South Korean automaker has begun its operation in the country and has announced to launch its first product, a compact urban SUV by the end of 2019. This product will be based on the SP Concept which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The final production model, by virtue, is going to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the soon to be launched Jeep Renegade. As a result of this, the prices will fall in the range of INR 9 lakh to INR 14 lakh. Owing to Kia’s reputation, expect this car to have a slightly premium character than the rest of the pack.
KIA SP Concept SUV- Launch
The Kia SP Concept is expected to go into production by mid-2019. If all goes well, the automaker might even launch their first SUV in the nation by the festive season of 2019. But, Kia is new here and however aspirational they might get, certain things might not go their way and we expect the launch of the SUV to be delayed to early 2020.

India being a price sensitive market, Kia Motors will have to work hard to keep the final cost in check. Reports online suggest a starting price for the upcoming SUV to be around INR 15 lakh with the top variant costing around INR 18 lakh. Comparing the price to its competitors, the Kia SUV costs a little more than Hyundai Creta but undercuts the Jeep Compass. This segment will also receive increased competition from local manufacturers like Tata and Mahindra.

This allows the company to use resources from each other to keep the research and development costs in check. The Kia SUV will most likely borrow its platform from the Hyundai Creta. The front fascia of the SP Concept follows the company’s design theme but since its an SUV, the design is much more intimidating and aggressive. The rear portion of the SP Concept derives cues from the Certa and the Sportage SUV.

In order to sell their product in a very competitive market, Kia might offer its customers loads of features in their cars. Indians sure love the long list of features on the brochure which was the sole reason for the success of the Mahindra XUV500. Taking cues from its Indian competitors, Kia might also offer a long list of features in their upcoming cars. The upcoming 5-seater SUV, for instance, is expected to carry the fully digital instrument cluster from the concept to production. Upon launch, the Kia SUV will be the only car in the segment to have such feature.
