Lexus appears to be working on a hotter version of the RC F coupe based on the latest spy shots.
The Japanese firm initially teased the idea of a pumped-up version of its BMW M4 rival with the RC F GT concept that was shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed back in 2016.
The latest images appear to show a production version of that model, kitted out with a similar fixed rear wing, diffuser and reshaped bumper designs. The model is also likely to draw heavily from Lexus’ GT3 racecar, allowing the brand to filter its motorsport know-how into its road cars.
The concept that previewed the model was over 360kg lighter than a regular RC F. It’s unlikely we’d see weight reduction of that extent in the road car, but expect to see a stripped out cabin, lightweight seats and liberal use of carbon fibre to help lower the overall kerb weight.
Under the bonnet the RC F GT is expected to make use of Lexus’ 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine and eight-speed automatic gearbox. Power is likely to be in excess of the RC F’s 470bhp output.
It’s possible that the launch of the RC F GT could coincide with the facelifted RC coupe. Shots of the performance model show it testing alongside disguised version of the standard coupe.
