Hyundai’s Maruti Vitara Brezza SUV rival is likely to launch in India in April 2019. It will have 70 per cent localization and a choice of three powertrains.
We are all well aware of the fact that Hyundai Motors India is currently working on a sub-compact SUB to rival the likes of Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport. The South Korean automaker showcased the Carlino concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. And since then there have been a number of speculations and rumours regarding the launch of Hyundai’s new compact utility vehicle. We earlier had unconfirmed reports that Hyundai is going to launch this new sub-4-meter compact SUV in India during H1 2019. Now confirming this, a report published on Overdrive states that the Carlino based sub-4-meter SUV is going to launch in the month of April 2019.
Currently, the segment of the sub-compact SUVs is currently dominated by the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Following close if the Ford’s Eco Sport while new players like the Tata Nexona and the Honda WR-V have also recieved a good response from buyers. The launch of this new Hyundai SUV is for sure going to act as a cat among the pigeons. And could possibly change the dynamics of the segment altogether.

Codenamed as the QXI, this Hyundai Carlino based compact SUV, in true Hyundai fashion, is going to have premium credentials. Also, just as we have seen on other segments, is also going to offer a better feature list in comparison to the competition. Furthermore, Hyundai cars have time and again offered more safety features than its rivals. Hence, in addition to the standard equipment list of dual-airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat mounts, it could also come with features such a hill-descent control, hill-assist, ESP and up to 6-airbags in the top-spec trims.

Media reports suggest that the Carlino based compact SUV is going to have multiple engine options to choose from. Hyundai is going to offer two petrol and one diesel engine in this utility vehicle’s line-up. The first is going to be a 1.0-litre, T-GDi, turbocharged petrol engine capable of producing 120 BHP along with 117 Nm of peak torque. The other is going to be the tried and testing naturally aspirated 1.2-litre Kappa petrol producing 82 BHP along with 117 Nm of peak torque. The diesel derivatives are going to get a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi unit. This engine churns out 99 BHP along with 224 Nm of peak torque.

As standard, this SUV is going to get a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, for the first time, Hyundai will introduce an AMT gearbox as well. This automated manual gearbox is going to be based on the 5-speed unit only. And is likely to debut in both petrol as well as diesel engines.
As far as the prices go, we expect this vehicle to cost in-between the mark of INR 7 lakh to 9.5 lakh. Prices are ex-showroom.
