A New Maruti small car (Crosshiker) is likely to launch in India by the end of the year 2020. It will sit in-between the Alto and the Wagon R in Maruti’s model line-up.
After a long long time, Maruti Suzuki is finally going to introduce an all-new entry-level car in India. Likely to be based on the crosshiker concept, this new small car, as reported by Live Mint, could go into production by the end of 2020. This new small car is likely to get only a petrol engine in-between the capacity of 800cc to 1000cc. Codenamed as the Y1K, this new model is currently under its development stage at the automaker’s R&D facility in Rohtak. According to the report, Maruti is aiming at making the prototype of the vehicle ready by early 2020 so that the vehicle can reach the production stage by the end of the same year itself.
New Maruti Small Car (Crosshiker) – Price:
The new Maruti Small Car, Crosshiker is expected to be priced between Rs 2.7 Lakh to Rs 4.5 Lakh (ex-showroom). The price, slightly higher than Alto, will provide for all the updated features and technology. The pricing will be perfect for any entry level as Kwid is also priced in the same range.

New Maruti Small Car (Crosshiker) – Launch Date:
The plans on Maruti Crosshiker are not made yet, as it did not feature in the Auto Expo 2018 too. However, it is expected to be launched by late 2020 after the passing of BS VI engines. Hence, it is too early to comment on the launch date in India.

New Maruti Small Car (Crosshiker) – Engine:
The car might come in two engine variants – 796cc 3 Cylinder MPFI and 999cc 3 Cylinder MPFI. The 796 CC engine will produce 47.3 BHP worth of power and 69 Nm worth of torque. On the other hand, the 999 CC engine offers 67.1 BHP worth of power and 90 Nm worth of torque. It is expected that the top variant might also give an optional AMT. The mileage expected is anything between 22 KMPL to 24 KMPL. The engine will be shared by both the Alto twins and Crosshiker.

Although the design details of the new Maruti small car are still under the wraps, we expect it to feature SUV-like upright design and a high ground clearance. The car might get an aerodynamic design with LED headlamps and fog lamps as basic features. It is also speculated to come with a crossover design.

The new Maruti small car might bet proper fabric upholstery and classy interiors. Maruti will be giving a bigger cabin space to the car with comfort features like back seat headrests, armrests and such. The top end version might receive a lot of updates but yet it isn’t confirmed. The update might include a new style steering wheel, facelifted dashboard and more.

Renault Kwid offers a variety of features for an entry-level car. The top end variant offers touch infotainment system, digital clusters with gear shift indicators and the basic safety features. So, the new small Maruti car is expected to get modern updates like touch infotainment system, digital speedometer cluster, reverse parking assistant and daytime running lights. With these features, it can easily take on Renault Kwid. In terms of safety, it might get ABS with EBD and dual airbags.

Since this hatchback is going to launch around 2020, this is the same time by which the more stringent crash test and emission norms come into play in our country. Hence, this new small car is going to come with dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts and reverse parking camera as standard across the range.
