Latest scoop reveals that Tata Harrier SUV will come with a Fiat-sourced 2.0 Litre Diesel engine and a 6-speed automatic gearbox sourced from Hyundai. The SUV is going to launch in the first few months of 2019 and we expect it to cost starting from Rs 14 Lakhs to Rs 20 Lakhs.
The Tata H5X SUV was recently officially named as ‘Tata Harrier’. During the official naming, Tata Motors said that this SUV will come in the first beginning months of 2019. Meanwhile, the latest scoop suggests that the Tata Harrier SUV will come with a Fiat-sourced engine and a Hyundai sourced Automatic gearbox. It will borrow Fiat’s Multijet 2.0 Litre Diesel engine. The Multijet engine pairs with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. However, instead of that, it will borrow Hyundai’s 6-speed automatic gearbox. This SUV will be the costliest car in Tata’s lineup, sitting above the Hexa. First, it will come with a diesel engine and later one it might get a petrol engine. Also, there are plans of an electric variant of this SUV, which might happen in 2020.

The 2.0 Litre Multijet engine produces 140 BHP of torque and 350 Nm of torque. This engine was earlier speculated to go with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. However, the gearbox could prove to be costlier adding up to Harrier’s project expenditure. This might be their reason to continue with Hyundai’s six-speed automatic transmission. This transmission is seen on the Tucson and some of the other Hyundai vehicle. Along with this, the Tata Harrier SUV will also get Tata’s all-wheel-drive system.

For features, we expect that the Tata Harrier SUV will get Electric Sunroof, Rear AC Vents, LED Projector headlamps with LED DRLs, Electrically adjustable seats, Hands-Free tailgate, Cooled Glove Box, Heated passenger seats, Different Drive modes, Engine Start-Stop button with Smart Key and Dim light rear mirror. For safety features, it gets 6-airbags, ESC and Vehicle Stability Management, ABS with EBD, Hill start and descent assist, Front and Rear parking assist with a rear parking camera, Traction Control and Brake Assist.

Coming to its price, we expect it to cost between Rs 14 Lakhs to Rs 20 Lakhs (ex-showroom). As its a premium offering, this price range can be very well expected. As for its competition, the rivals would be Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and the upcoming Isuzu MU-X. Currently, Hexa, being an MPV, falls into this segment because of the price range.
