In this CarGurus Used Car Video Review we are concentrating on the seventh-generation Astra, which was launched in 2015. As with its predecessors, this car is Vauxhall’s rival to the likes of the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and Honda Civic, as well as newer rivals such as the Kia Ceed and Hyundai i30.
First impressions are certainly good, with the Astra looking smart and feeling solidly built on both the outside and inside. There’s plenty of space too; in fact, the Astra is one of the roomiest cars in its class, giving even the Skoda Octavia a run for its money when it comes to rear legroom.
As is often the case with Vauxhalls there’s an engine and trim level to suit almost every budget, with Vauxhall’s smooth and efficient 1.6-litre diesel being particularly good for people who cover a lot of miles. On the petrol front the options range for a naturally aspirated 1.4-litre to turbocharged units of 1.0, 1.4 and 1.6 litres in capacity.
The car in our video was sourced from used car supermarket Fords of Winsford and is a 1.6 CDTi automatic in SRi specification. Like all seventh-generation Astras it features Vauxhall’s Intellilink touchscreen and air-conditioning, while SRi spec also brings 17-inch alloy wheels and a sports switch which sharpens the throttle response and adds more weight to the steering for a more exciting drive.
