The baby SUV, Volvo XC40 has launched in India. It gets fully loaded safety features, making it one of the safest globally. The SUV is priced decently at Rs 39.90 Lakhs (ex-showroom) as it takes on the other compact SUVs from Mercedes, BMW and Audi. It will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) and takes major design cues from the XC60, but gets a new chassis. Safety highlights of the car include Pilot Assist with traffic management ability, Oncoming lane mitigation, Blind Spot Detection and lot more. It uses a 2.0 Litre Turbo-charged diesel engine that produces around 190 BHP worth of maximum power and 400 Nm worth of torque. Volvo XC40 – Variants
In India, only the top-variant R Design is going to launch. Globally, XC40 will come in Momentum and Inscription trims along with R-Design and First – Edition variants. The R-Design varies majorly in cosmetic changes when compared to its lower trims. The R-Design gets 18.5 Diamond Cut matte black alloy wheels with dark tinted windows. Also, it gets a dual tone treatment. Basically, the R-Design looks more sporty than the other two trims.

The Indian version of XC 40 will get a 4-cylinder turbo-charged 2.0 L diesel engine. Globally, the SUV also comes in petrol variants. The diesel engine produces 190 BHP worth of power and 400 Nm worth of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed Geartronic Automatic transmission. It gets a Haldex AWD drivetrain. XC40 has different drive modes, however, it misses out on air suspension.
Volvo XC40 – Design
Most of the styling elements of the XC 40 have been copied from the XC90, however, some of the elements like the spoilers and the bumpers are different from its sibling. It sports a tall boy stance with some sporty elements like Thor’s hammer headlamps. It copies the chromed grille, front sporty bumper and the contrasting colour roof from XC90. The headlamps, L-shaped tail lights and the 18-inch alloy wheels are standard. It also features LED DRLs in Thor’s hammer. In the rear, it also gets a rear wiper with washer and 2 rectangle-shaped exhausts. It gets a triple-tone colour treatment with 2 colour schemes. Overall, yes it looks sporty and bigger than some of its competitors. It has a large wheelbase, which makes it look bigger.

Volvo XC40 – Interior
Again, some of the elements from its elder siblings are put in the XC40’s interiors. From the inside, the SUV looks superb and just too elegant. The SUV gets a 9-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment, three-spoke steering wheel with functions mounted and GPS navigation on the digital instrument cluster. It also gets a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon music system and rear parking sensors with a camera. It gets heavy chrome fillings inside the car, like on the gear knobs and the steering wheel. In terms of storage, it offers storage spaces in the centre console, under the front seats and in the removable bin and car slots on the dashboard.
