Hyundai Eon To Pave Way For New Santro- Model To Discontinue By Year End

Hyundai Eon, the entry-level car by the Korean automaker, is going to be discontinued by this year-end. It will make way for the upcoming Hyundai Santro hatchback. Eon is the most affordable Hyundai car, which now cannot adhere to the stricter safety and emission rules, which are going to come in 2019.

After the production of the Santro was stopped, Hyundai‘s entry-level car was the i10. It was a brief period, after which the smaller, Hyundai Eon was launched in India. It had a tall-boy stance but a rather scrunched up appearance. Some found this car to be a little compact. The Eon is priced starting from Rs 3.33 Lakhs to Rs 4.6 Lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi). At this price, it takes on the Maruti Alto 800, K10 and Renault Kwid. However, after December it would not compete. Hyundai Eon is going to be discontinued by end of 2018 to make way for the upcoming Hyundai Santro. The primary reason for discontinuation is because the hatchback is not compliant with the upcoming safety and emission norms. Instead of improving it, discontinuing the Eon would make way more sense.

It went on against the Maruti Alto 800 and K10 and Renault Kwid. Amongst these three, Kwid gets the most features, followed by Eon.

The Santro is expected to be a bit pricier than the Eon, with expected prices starting from Rs 3.5 Lakhs to Rs 5.5 Lakhs. Being an entry-level car, it will get many premium features. It will get i10’s 1.0 Litre VTVT petrol engine that produces 68 BHP of power and 99 Nm of torque. It will get a 5-speed manual transmission, like the Eon, but might also get an AMT variant too. Santro would further raise its competition bar and will go on against Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Ford Figo, Tata Tiago and some variants of Swift.
