Hyundai has today released the first design sketches of their upcoming new small car Santro which is codenamed as the AH2 compact hatchback. India launched is confirmed for October 2018.
Hyundai Motors India has unveiled the first design sketches of their upcoming new hatchback in India. Codenamed as the AH2 and likely to be called the Santro, this new small car from the South Korean automaker is set to launch in India this October. It is going to stand at the company’s new entry-level vehicle. And hence, it will replace the Eon from automaker’s model line-up in our country.
Though the design sketches do not reveal much about the aesthetics of the final production model, we can still clearly see that the new Santro is likely to get a sharp exterior design. This becomes quite evident even from the numerous spy shots of this car’s test mules circulating on the internet. At the front, the car looks to get long, side-swept headlamps. It seems that it does not come with LED daytime running lights, but it does come with high mounted fog-lamps. From the side, the car gets a muscular design with bold shoulder creases. The rear fascia is going to get simple yet elegant treatment with it borrowing some design cues from the Grand i10.
Hyundai says that they have designed this car to have a very attractive profile. This is in addition to the fact that the new Santro or the AH2 is going to be highly practical in nature. Not only this, but this new small hatchback will have a very decent cabin space.

Hyundai is known to offer decent quality levels in their vehicles. This is true even for their entry level as well as other budget offerings. Hence, we are expecting the Santro to get a similar treatment as well. Furthermore, this new small car will get an adequate feature list as well. This is one again a standard Hyundai trait.
In addition to this, since the new Santro is coming at a time when India going through a big change in terms of vehicular safety, it will get a decent safety kit as standard. This means that it will come with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard.

The Santro is going to mark a significant ‘first for India by Hyundai’ feature. This is the availability of an AMT gearbox in this car’s model line-up. So far, the South Korean automaker only offers torque converters and CVT automatic gearboxes in its cars. Powertrain options are likely to include only a petrol derivative. This is going to be the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder unit available on the current spec Grand i10.
As mentioned before, the new Santro will launch in India during October this year. Prices will fall in the range of INR 3.5 lakh to 6.5 lakh. Its main competition is going to be with the likes of Tata Tiago, Maruti Wagon R and the Renault KWID.
