Let me clear the difference between Jawa and Yezdi. Ideal Jawa LTD came to India in 1960 with their Jawa motorcycles. After, a brief period of 13 years, Jawa bikes became Yezdi. Overall, they came from the same brand. So, continuing ahead, the Jawa Motorcycles were very famous back in the 60s and 70s for its quick acceleration, lightweight and great riding quality. It was known as a Street racer back then and was majorly used in dirt bike racing or motorcycle rallies. Now, we get the news that Mahindra bought the license to manufacture bikes from Jawa LTD. Also, recently, a fellow Twitter user asked about it to Anand Mahindra. He then replied, “Jawa Motorcycles, happening this year”. The 2017 model Jawa 350 looks much like the classic that once dotted our streets. It may be noted here that this Czech bike brand made it to our shores back in the 1960s when it was known as the Ideal Jawa. Back then, the bikes were manufactured in Mysore, Karnataka. Thee bikes went on to be known as ‘Yezdi’ during the latter part of their career. Jawa motorcycles went out of production in India in 1996.

Mahindra made a twitter statement regarding the Jawa 350 India launch date. When a certain user asked him when will this iconic bike relaunch in India, to which Anand Mahindra replied ‘Happening this year’. So we expect the bike to launch in India after festive year, probably by year end.

While the price of new Jawa 350 in India will be announced only at the time of its launch, one thing that’s for sure is that the new bike will be positioned close to the Royal Enfield Classic 350. Hence, in all probability, the bike will not cost any more than Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Powering the Jawa is a single-cylinder 350cc engine that comes from Chinese engine manufacturer Shineray. Basically, this engine is loosely based on an old Honda engine. This engine outputs a max. power of 26 BHP and a peak torque of 32 Nm. The engine comes along with a four-speed manual transmission. However, we’re hoping that Mahindra takes note of this and launches the new 350cc motorcycle here with a five-speed unit. The bike benefits from ABS.
