New Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 – All You Need To Know About It

The new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is all set to launch globally between 22nd to 26th September. Following which, we expect it to launch in India by year end or early 2019. Check out the price expectations, launch date, specs and features of the upcoming Cafe Racer. 

The all-new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 with its partner-in-crime Interceptor 650 are going to launch globally in September 2018. The news is confirmed and the publications are headed out for its first ride in the USA. The GT 650 is a cafe racer with the upright position and single seating arrangement. The bike replaces the Continental GT 650. The cafe racer gets a more urbane look, defying the usual Royal Enfield bikes. The bike has been spied multiple times and has also been spotted once in India during testing. Design highlights include the iconic retro round headlamps, heavy chrome inserts, clip-on handlebars, dual exhaust system and its single seating. It gets a 648cc parallel twin engine which is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. A slipper clutch is also provided for better performance. The expected price of the GT 650 is between Rs 3 Lakhs to Rs 4 Lakhs.

In terms of competition, it does not face one. Such bikes are exotic and rare to find in India. Still, its nearest competitor will be the Harley Davidson Street 750, which is pay too much priced than the GT 650. The bike is expected to be priced around Rs 3 Lakhs to Rs 4 Lakhs and will sit above all of the models in RE’s range. The cafe racer is scheduled to launch globally between September 22 to 26 this year. So, we can expect a year end or early 2019 launch in India.

Locally, it is produced at the Chennai Plant of the company. The 648 CC engine will produce 47PS worth power and 52 Nm worth of torque and will be mated to a six-speed gearbox. The estimated mileage is not revealed but fuel capacity of the bike will be around 12.5 Litres. GT 650 gets exciting Dual exhaust mufflers. The gearbox gets slip/assist clutch offering smoother riding.

Although the price of the bike is not revealed officially, it is speculated that it will cost between Rs 3 Lakh to Rs 4 Lakh. The pricing is estimated mainly because of the added twin parallel engine and ABS feature. Also, its predecessor, GT 535, is priced starting from Rs 2.05 Lakh.

The design is based on proper old school bikes. Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 defines it muscularity with sporty and macho looks. They will sport the Roadster and Cafe Racer design and styling, which is rarely found in India. Royal Enfield has assured that these bikes will have a top-notch fit and finish and a lot of thought and work has gone into the quality as well. The bikes will be available in four colours – Staunchy Blue, Chrome, Icy White and Black Magic. It weighs around 199 KG.

Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 – Competition

Given the decent pricing, the bike’s main competitor will be Harley Davidson Street 750. Priced much lower than that, it can take on Street 750 because of similar specs sparing the engine. Being a type of cruiser bike, it falls off against the other bikes in the same price range. Royal Enfield GT 650 has been launched globally and is bound for India this year. According to some reports, the bike will hit the Indian roads anytime after April 2018.
