Next Generation Maruti Ertiga is a BIG improvement over the previous iteration- Five Reasons Why

The next-generation Maruti Ertiga is going to launch in India within the next couple of months. Here are five reasons that make it a big improvement over the previous generation iteration.

Within the next couple of months, ideally around the festive season this year, Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the next-generation Ertiga in India. The 2018 iteration of this mid-size MPV went on sale in the Indonesian market recently. India is going to get the same version with some minor mechanical changes along with the addition of a diesel engine in its line-up. The Maruti Etiga has evolved quite a lot with this generation update and hence, comes across as a significant improvement over its previous generation version.

First, let’s talk about the exteriors. The new Ertiga comes with a completely redesigned exterior profile. There is not so much as a hint of this MPV’s previous iteration in the next-generation model. It now looks a whole lot mature, premium and contemporary with its new aesthetics. It now has elongated headlamps with projector units, a large chrome grille, a bold shoulder crease and at a rear, nice and angular tail-lamps with LED units.

Just like the exterior profile, the interior layout of the 2018 Maruti Ertiga is completely different from the model that it is going to replace. In fact, the design takes its inspiration from the dashboard seen on the 2017 Dzire. As a result of this, it comes with a dual-tone colour scheme. There are faux wood inserts on the trims, the dashboard and the steering wheel. As before, it comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a central armrest. The MPV comes with a 7-seater layout as standard. However, we do have reasons to believe that there will be a 6-seater layout, with captain seats in the middle row, will be on offer as well. All that said, we still have our fingers crossed when it comes to the material quality.

In addition to the premium cabin, the new Maruti Ertiga is expected to come loaded with features as well. The reasons for our high expectations in this regard is due to the fact that recent models from Maruti Suzuki, like the Swift and the Dzire, had a pretty impressive feature list. Not to mention the updated given to the Brezza and the Ciaz. Hence, in addition to the projector headlamps and LED tail-lamps, we expect the new Ertiga to get features like a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, engine stop-start button, key-less entry among other industry standard features.

The MPV will also score high in terms of its safety kit thanks to the upcoming regulations. Hence, in addition to a strong HEARTECT platform which is compliant with the new and stringent crash test regulations, this large people carrier is going to come with dual-airbags, ABD with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts and reversing parking sensors as standard across the range.

Apart from all these on-the-top changes, one area where the 2018 Maruti Ertiga is going to excel over its previous iteration is under the hood. With this generation update, the new Ertiga is will get the new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that made its debut with the 2018 Ciaz recently. And just like the Ciaz, it is going to come paired with Suzuki’s new and improved mild-hybrid technology. This will help in taking the fuel-efficiency figure of this MPV close to 20 km/l. The diesel derivative will continue to come with the same 1.3-litre diesel engine.
