2018 Maruti Wagon R is most likely to use Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform enabling it to offer better mileage numbers than its current iteration.
It seems that that the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is going to pose even more impressive fuel-efficiency figures that its current iterations.
Why do we say that?
Well, though not confirmed by Maruti Suzuki as of yet, we believe that the 2018 Wagon R is going to get Suzuki’s new, lightweight HEARTECT platform. This is the same underpinnings which we also see on the current generation of the Swift and the Dzire compact sedan.
And as we saw with the Swift and Dzire, with the use of the HEARTECT platform in their respective next-gen iterations, the mileage figures of the 2018 Maruti Wagon R will also go up in comparison to the current iteration of this hatchback.

With the use of same engine specifications, as a result of lesser kerb weight, the mileage numbers for the Swift and the Dzire petrol derivatives went up by almost 2 km/l. Expect a similar effect on the mileage figures of the new Wagon R as well.
Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (Read More) offers an ARAI certifies mileage figure of 20.51 km/l. With the use of the new platform, this figure can go up to 22 km/l.
As mentioned before, the next-generation iteration of this compact hatchback is most likely to continue using the same engine as before. Currently, it comes with a 1.0-litre K10B, 3-cylinder petrol engine.
This gasoline driven engine belts out 67 BHP of power along with 90 Nm of peak torque. It comes as standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, there is an AMT gearbox on offer as well.

As far as the design goes, going by recent developments, it is likely that the new version of this hatchback will have the same exterior aesthetics as that of the Japanese spec WagonR. It will continue to come with its signature tall-boy design with flat side and rear fascia and a small bonnet with minimum overhangs at either end.

Inside the cabin, just like the exteriors, the cabin layout will also feature a major overhaul. The quality of the materials used will remain the same, however, they will also continue to offer the same sturdy and everlasting build.
Other than this, WagonR’s cabin will continue to be a practical place as it has forever been throughout its previous generations. As far as the prices go, expect them to increase ever so slightly due to a better kit and safety features on offer.
