The iconic Jawa is going to bake a comeback this year. 3 Jawa bikes will be launching in India which will retain the original classic looks. The bikes will be squarely aimed to rival against Royal Enfield bikes.

The legend is arriving. That’s what all the Jawa lovers are saying right now. The peppy two-stroke cafe racer bikes are launching in India this year! Last year, Mahindra and Mahindra took control of the brand and now plans to launch it in India. Mahindra already has collaborated with Anupam Thareja, owner of Classic Legends. This brand was an important part in the revival of Royal Enfield in India. So before we move further, let’s get down to the history of Jawa (Read More).

Ideal Jawa LTD came to India in 1960. For the first 13 years, it sold the bikes under the ‘Jawa’ name and then it became Yezdi. Yezdi turned out to become more popular and till day, has a cult following. 4 variants of the Yezdi were manufactured – 250 B, 250 Roadking, 350 Twin and 250 Monarch. These were pure street racers used for street racing and rallies.

By the time the emission norms grew stricter, the production of these bikes finally stopped in 1996. But since then, the demand for a fully restored Yezdi increased and now, the prices go up to Rs 2 Lakhs for a bike. Such is the following of this bike.

Coming to the news, a total of 3 bikes are launching by the end of this year. We do not know more details about these three bikes, but Mr Thareja says that it will look like a pure retro classic.

He says, “We had two options: you start from the point where it ended. Or start where it would have gone had it not ended at the time. From a design POV, it’s got that golden ratio that transcends through time. With the lines, you can recognize it’s a Jawa.”

When it launches, it will mainly compete with the likes of Royal Enfield bikes. One we expect will be a Jawa 350. Although their bikes go up to 650cc, the details are not out yet. However, the manufacturing will take place at Mahindra’s Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh. It will follow heavy localization for relatively lower prices.

Expect the bikes to come with chrome inserts, spoke wheels, a single seat, and other such retro design elements. Well, a Jawa without any retro feeling would not look good, right?

Other reports suggest that the 3 bikes will use engines and platforms of the Mojo bikes. If it does, it can have a competitive price range.
