The Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol is going to launch in India during the first half of 2019. It will have better mileage figures than the Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.
Recent media reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki is going to launch the petrol derivative of the Vitara Brezza in India during the first half of 2019.
And that, the gasoline-driven version of this sub-compact SUV is going to get Suzuki’s all-new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine.
However, that’s not all.
In addition to the K15B petrol motor, the Vitara Brezza petrol is also going to come with Suzuki’s mild-hybrid technology. Basically, it is going to be the same technology which made its debut in India with the 2018 update for the Maruti Ciaz.
All that said, Maruti Suzuki is yet to say anything on these speculations.
However, if these speculations turn out to be true, then the Vitara Brezza will become the most fuel-efficient sub-compact SUV in its segment.

Why do we say that?
Well, because the same mild-hybrid system on the Maruti Ciaz has taken its petrol derivative’s fuel-efficiency up to 20 km/l. In addition to this, the Vitara Brezza is a lighter vehicle in comparison to the former. As a result of this, the mileage figures for it are likely to be higher.
Let’s give you a brief overview of this new 1.5-litre K15 B petrol engine from Suzuki:
This four-cylinder, naturally aspirated motor produces 104 BHP along with 138 Nm of peak torque. As standard, it comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, in the Ciaz there is a 4-speed automatic unit is also on offer. To keep the prices in check, Maruti is most likely to introduce and AMT gearbox with this engine in the Brezza.

However, as mentioned before, there is no official confirmation regarding this from Maruti Suzuki as of now.
There are chances that the Indo-Japanese automaker decides to introduce the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder Boosterjet engine. This is the same petrol unit which does its duty in the Baleno RS. Suzuki already uses this engine in the European spec Baleno and the Swift where it retails with the SHVS technology.
Maruti is currently manufacturing this engine in India. And can use this in the Vitara Brezza petrol instead of the 1.5-litre K15B motor.

One of the reasons why we believe that Maruti will use the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder Boosterjet engine and not the k15B unit is because the latter will the help the company reap the benefits of the duty cut.
Cars measuring under 4-meters and with a 1.2-litre engine get a slight duty cut. This helps in keeping the prices competitive. However, with the use of the 1.5-litre engine, this is not going to be the case.
