It is about time that Maruti Suzuki introduces a new iteration of the Alto 800 in India. And is the latest media reports are to be believed, the company is indeed planning to launch a minor update for the car in March 2019.
Mind you, this update is not going to be a full-generation upgrade, but a minor facelift of sorts. Maruti Suzuki will introduce the next-generation Alto 800 during the year 2020. Hence, it is still quite some time for an altogether new Alto 800 to reach Indian shores.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is yet to let out an official word on the launch date of the new Maruti Alto 800. However, there are good chances that this hatchback will go on sale towards the end of next year, probably around the next year’s festive season. In spite of enjoying a 45% market share in India’s passenger car market, MSIL has been gradually losing out to various new entrants such as Datsun and Renault. Both the Redi Go and the Kwid offer 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre variants that directly target the Alto twins. While Maruti has so far launched pricier cars in the form of the new S-Cross and the Ignis, it will finally shift its focus on the entry-level segments to further consolidate its position. The new 2018 Maruti Alto 660cc is a major part of this plan.

This new generation iteration of this car will be an all-new model, inside and out. It will have a more modern engine, a new lightweight platform, modern exterior, and a more attractive interior. Hence, safely expect it to cost slightly more than the current version. Prices will likely start at Rs 2.8 lakh and go all the way to Rs 4.2 lakh.

Suzuki has been using this small-capacity three-cylinder engine for a lot of time now. We have seen this engine in JDM-spec Alto 800 and even the sporty Cappuccino, with the latter getting a high strung version with over 64 PS of maximum power. A displacement of 658cc, which is just under the 660cc limit, has given these JDM cars the Kei-car advantage. The India-spec Alto 2018 will probably get the 51 PS version. A low displacement along with modern internals and really low kerb weight make this car really frugal. The new lightweight platform should ensure weight savings of up to 60 KGs.

New Maruti Alto 800- Mileage
It gets really important for entry-level cars to offer a really high mileage. The JDM-spec Alto delivers 37 kmpl in the JC08 test cycle. Even in India, the 2018 version of this hatchback will offer a really high mileage. Expect the new Maruti Alto 800 2018 to deliver a mileage of around 30 kmpl in real-world conditions. The high mileage will be owing to a lightweight platform and a smaller engine. There are really very good chances that the new model of this hatchback will become the best mileage car in India.

Despite being an entry-level hatchback, the next-generation iteration of the Maruti Alto is going to get a sufficient amount of kit on-board. The new 2018 Alto 800 model won’t look anything like the car on sale today. It will feature an all-new exterior design that will make the car look much more attractive. Maruti has been caught testing the JDM-spec version of this hatchback in India. Chances are that the upcoming new India-spec model would borrow plenty of design cues from the Japanese sibling. This means that the new car will have a retro design reminiscent of the original Suzuki Alto. That said, the car will be attractive enough to qualify as a modern design, but with a lot of old-school feel to it. It is also being said that the car would have a crossover-like stance. This will help the new Alto to target the rugged-looking Renault Kwid.

New Maruti Alto 800- Interior
Even the interior will be completely new. The dashboard will go on to have a minimalist look and will feel more modern. The quality of materials will be better and even the features list will be higher. The new car will offer more space and a slightly larger boot. Also, expect the car to offer foldable rear seats to maximize the luggage-carrying capability. Thanks to the new norms, all the variants will have a standard driver’s side airbag. ABS will be available as an option.
