Next-Gen Nissan Micra is going to launch in 2019. The premium hatchback will get new powerful engines, a larger body and many new features onboard. This hatchback will reportedly launch after the upcoming Nissan Kicks SUV.
Nissan India currently has Micra, Micra Active, Sunny and Terrano in its current lineup. However, all of these products are doing very low in the market. They come with just the right features, but despite that, they do not have that good control over the market. With the upcoming Nissan Kicks, things could change. Anyhow, latest media reports say that the next-generation Nissan Micra is going to launch in 2019. It will get more powerful engines, a larger body and a whole lot of new feature upgrades. Also, Nissan is going to heavily localize the parts so the price hike would not be that much.

So when is it launching?
As per Nissan’s strategy for the Indian market, many new models are going to launch in the next 2-3 years. The list includes Nissan Kicks, maybe some electric and hybrid cars, new-generations of the Nissan Micra and Sunny. After the launch of Nissan Kicks, the next-gen hatchback will launch.
What new features will it have?
Nissan plans to put this in the B+ segment, where Elite i20 and Baleno dominate the market. So the expected features on the new Micra include a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, reverse parking sensors with a camera and more. For safety, it could get ABS with EBD, ESC, Hill Start Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, automatic headlight sensor and dual front airbags.

What are the new engines onboard the next-gen Nissan Micra?
Currently, the Micra uses a 1.2 Litre petrol engine and a 1.5 Litre diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 77 BHP of power and 104 Nm of torque. The diesel engine produces 64 BHP of power and 160 Nm of torque. The petrol variant comes mated only to CVT and the diesel comes with an only 5-speed manual transmission.
With the next-gen Micra, it could likely get Terrano’s 1.5 Litre K9K diesel engine. This engine comes with two power options – 84 BHP and 108 BHP. On the other hand, it might continue with the same 1.2 Litre petrol engine. However, there were reports saying that it might get a retuned petrol engine. The transmission options will continue to remain the same.

How would it look different?
Since it is a generation update, a whole new Micra is expected. The global Micra gets beefier and a slightly bigger body. It is likely that the same design scheme would come with the Indian spec model. In the interior, also, it gets a complete makeover. Basically, we think that it might not look like the current Micra at all.
What are the price expectations and competition?
We expect the new Micra to be priced a bit, around Rs 50,000 more than the current variants. As of now, it retails starting from Rs 6.42 Lakhs up to Rs 7.90 Lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi). For the competition, it goes up against Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo.
